What super hype movies? There hasn't been a good movie since winter of 2010; movies january - june/july always suck because the good ones know they can destroy the competition in summer/winter where you can get the biggest viewership.

Well, obviously movies are "good" for someone if they enjoyed it(I put good in quotations because that's subjective - an opinion) but there's a difference between you or me enjoying a movie and whether or not it was good. Movies don't win awards because the people voting for the movies enjoyed them, but because they looked at the movies objectively for each respective category.
I enjoyed thor, fast five, this pirates, no strings attatched, and probably others. But were any of them good?
I'm just commenting on the fact that you seem to think not a single "good" movie has come out in the last 5 or so months. That's just silly.
Even from your short list right there...Thor, at the very least, was a "good" movie.
Thor was the most enjoyable movie I've watched thus far this year, and I do think it was great. But I'm betting it wont win any academy awards.
You're getting too hung up on me discrediting these movies - I'm not. They're just not in the league of King's Speech, Inception, Batman, and to go further back: the hurtlocker, avatar, etc.
I'm obviously not a member of whatever group of people choose/analyze/whatever movies for awards and what not so what I'm saying should be taken with a grain of salt.. but the movies of this year have all had issues with plot holes and dead zones during the plot where literally nothing was happening and it was obvious the writers had nothing interesting to add so they were pushing the plot along to get to their next great idea. Others had issues with the music not expressing the same emotions the scene is(pirates had this issue, I knew what I was seeing was epic but I didn't feel like I did in, say, Thor. The hammer coming to thor was emotionally supercharged and the music reflected that). I'm not experienced enough to know what else to look for but I'm sure there are other elements that are off. Either way, whilst enjoyable, these movies weren't cinematic masterpieces, and to see them for they are requires an objective and unbiased eye.
If you think the Academy is the be all, end all of any given movie's worth... lulz.
Saw this movie last night and like most ppl say it was enjoyable, only thing i didnt like was blackbeard i think davy jones was far better than him. Overall out of the 4 movies this one is rank 3(1st one being the best), i might be a minority here but i liked the 2nd more than the 4th especially cause of davy jones.
..uh, no.. but they're attempting to look at a movie objectively, which is my point.
I guess a discussion about objective movie viewing vs subjective movie viewing and the subsequent discussion of what makes x movie good/bad is just not possible with the amount of trolling that gets done.
It was good, and I enjoyed it a lot, too. You could make fun of it because it used a story told by the same director two decades ago + pocahontas + dances with wolves.
Are you saying it was enjoyable but not a good movie? Because, and I know how bad this looks, it did win a lot of awards. I personally enjoyed it and thought it was great, but it's also a cut above other movies. The script wasn't original, but what the hell is today?
Isn't it easy/obvious to see if the movie's going to be critically acclaimed/nominated after leaving the theater? I doubt any of the movies of this year so far will be able to stand up to the summer/winter blockbusters.
Well thank god I'm not a toolbag. If only you had read what I said. Or even when I replied to someone saying the exact same thing.
And sure, Avatar isn't in league of King's Speech just like a mustang isn't in the league of an xbox. They're two different movies targeted at two different audiences...
I agree a little bit. Couldn't someone critique a movie for having plot-holes, poor transitions, bad musical score, inappropriate music in a scene etc?
Only things I got from the movie were that Jack is more ninja than pirate and a really cool idea for a D&D sword based on Blackbeard's. Never really been too big of a fan of the franchise but at least Depp put out a better performance than he did the last two times he took the role up.
