    Aion PvP

I recently quit FFXI and have been looking to possibly start up some Aion action when it comes out. My wife is begging me to go back to WoW and I'm trying to restrain as it wears on me too quickly, ie run out of stuff to do etc. With Aion, how is the world pvp? I've heard that its completely open world and people can attack you while in a dungeon etc, how accurate is that?

The Abyss is full open PvP with easy access for both races. Most (maybe more as it goes higher, I haven't read too much about it) zones 20+ have rifts that open occasionally and allow people to jump into opposing faction areas, but they have set numbers of usage and close after certain amounts of time.

There are also instances that are PvPvE in that you and another faction both enter the same instance at slightly different areas, and you can either mess with the other faction and slow them down or try to just plow through the PvE stuff and get to the end faster that way.

    I can'T talk about abyss because i wasn't lv 25

But starting lv 20 you can enter what we call "rifts"

Rifts are Vortex (there are around 7 per world) with different lvs that you enter, when you enter a rift you are on the other side, so if your Asmodian and enter a lv 20 rift you arrive to elyos side, with lv 20+ monster.

And when you are on the other side you can do what you want kill elyos mobs, explore the world enter elyos town (but soldier NPC will find you and kill you)

And of course you can make ambush for when elyos pass or w/e

I'm thinking about picking the game up next week but I certainly don't like the idea of getting ganked via boss fight etc. Sounds very interesting though, the game.

All of the instances are PvE, save for one that Tythera mentioned. You will not get invaded by the other side once you are in your instance.

The one Tythera is talking about is called the Dredgion. Both sides get prepared at the start for 1 min, and its pretty much two identical paths that run along side each other with the same mobs with spots where you can cross over to the other side. So you have to choose if you want to just focus solely on PvE and try to work your way to the boss first where both of the paths meet up, or do you want to cross over to your enemies side and fuck with them before they get to the boss?

Rifts probably won't be a major concern in retail. They're all level capped, so rifters will be at a severe disadvantage if any higher levels learn of their presence. People who waste all their time in rifts will just end up underleveled and constantly being marked by the slayer system for a level 50 to come rape them.

Abyss is totally open PvP at all times, so you either need to travel in groups or be extremely vigilant. Whether in abyss or rift zones, always be aware of your surroundings, escape routes, ambush points, etc. There are also non-rift zones all the way to 50, but you'll level much slower by restricting yourself. There are no real penalties for dying in PvP: 1 kinah, homepoint, and a few AP.

No real penalties for dying in PVP until higher ranks.

As someone that was never into PVP, i have to say i'm loving it so far. I was surprised at first when i found myself out hunting the other faction instead of doing my normal PVE. It's a whole hell of a lot of fun.

On the topic of rifting, these are all the portals(entrance + exit portals) for both Asmos and Elyos in Elten and Morheim, that's just one area for each race.

Blue being Elyos and Red being Asmo ofc.

I didn't realize the PvPvE instance was actually the Dredgion. That's pretty awesome. I just remembered hearing about it and seeing a map of the inside. The thing is definitely awesome looking in the Abyss though. Do you have to sneak in or is there any easy way to enter it?

You infiltrate it. There's an NPC on Elyos side right by the left portal to go to the W Shard of Latesran (Special Administration Officer or something). Talk to him, and hit Infiltrate the Dredgion. Only works if its spawned currently though; last patch fixed that. Otherwise you could select private/group/quick entry even if it wasnt spawned yet.
I know though that you can directly attack it too. I had a target on the Core of it - did like 1 dmg though before it used Wave of Destruction for some ridiculous amount. Was a 5-star legend, think I have pics of it in the SS thread. Wonder if it drops rarer stuff killing it that way.

Has anyone tried that 'starter' abyss instance thing for lv 25-28?

Yep, did it the last day of the beta. There was no PVP involved; it was pretty simple. One of the bosses had a mean AoE but that was about the most threatening part. Apparently though from what I understand about it there's a boss that if you kill EVERYTHING else in the zone he becomes ridiculously tough and drops some really good stuff. We didn't go for that though, we did a speedrun of it. Took about an hour and 15min, and went from 0 exp into 28 to half way through 28 after quest turn-ins. Before quest turn-ins it was about 40% through 28. So very good exp. General drops a really nice greatsword as well. Only got that and some blue boots (I think they were world drop anyway) through the whole instance that had about 4 bosses. I posted pics in the SS thread.

So with all this being said, is the game worth the time? Are there enough differences between it and WoW to lean toward it?

Ask yourself if going back to wow is something you rather do or does slamming your head in a door sound like a better use of your time?

If you choose the latter I can assure you Aion is a lot more fun then slamming your head in a door. :D

We can't answer this for you. Figure it out on your own.
