    I like GG Kay too, and Margaret Atwood, and Douglas Coupland. Really disliked Ondaatje though

    That poem is pretty annoying, why put in rhymes mid-phrase when you will never sound out the corresponding rhyme without it sounding really dumb?

    yeah.. reading this stuff at 4 in the morning on my nightshift is pretty drudging

    at least send some wordsworth, whitman, or e.e. cummings my way, but alas they were born elsewhere

    this last guy had decent imagery and ABAB rhyming so at least it didn't make me "huh what the hell is going on?" while reading it

    still pretty sad though:
    Spoiler: show

    THE EAVESDROPPER
    Carman, Bliss, (1861-1929)
    In a still room at hush of dawn,
    My Love and I lay side by side
    And heard the roaming forest wind
    Stir in the paling autumn-tide.

    I watched her earth-brown eyes grow glad
    Because the round day was so fair;
    While memories of reluctant night
    Lurked in the blue dusk of her hair.

    Outside, a yellow maple tree,
    Shifting upon the silvery blue
    With tiny multitudinous sound,
    Rustled to let the sunlight through.

    The livelong day the elvish leaves
    Danced with their shadows on the floor;
    And the lost children of the wind
    Went straying homeward by our door.

    And all the swarthy afternoon
    We watched the great deliberate sun
    Walk through the crimsoned hazy world,
    Counting his hilltops one by one.

    Then as the purple twilight came
    And touched the vines along our eaves,
    Another Shadow stood without
    And gloomed the dancing of the leaves.

    The silence fell on my Love's lips;
    Her great brown eyes were veiled and sad
    With pondering some maze of dream,
    Though all the splendid year was glad.

    Restless and vague as a gray wind
    Her heart had grown, she knew not why.
    But hurrying to the open door,
    Against the verge of western sky

    I saw retreating on the hills,
    Looming and sinister and black,
    The stealthy figure swift and huge
    Of One who strode and looked not back.

    nvm, that one wasn't ABAB but one of them was

    what does "her heart had grown" mean? is that like bloodletting and bile era of medicine? I'm guessing the One was Death and not that she is overlooking Whoville

    the odd thing is I only have to read them, which I'm not sure why as I don't have to submit or discuss anything that proves I read it

    an exercise in trust and cruelty perhaps

    Restless and vague as a gray wind
    Her heart had grown

    i.e.

    Her heart had grown Restless and vague as a gray wind

    or yeah she's gonna die from a heart attack or something. Where's Dr House?

    oops lol

    some other poem had some beleaguered 6 line sentence that finally explained itself; it was like listening to my dad tell a story or reading salinger

    (actually that's not fair, salinger eventually gets to the point)

    and since I'm not completely incapable of enjoying new things:

    Spoiler: show

    TO A CANADIAN AVIATOR WHO DIED FOR HIS COUNTRY IN FRANCE

    Tossed like a falcon from the hunter’s wrist,
    A sweeping plunge, a sudden shattering noise,
    And thou hast dared, with a long spiral twist,
    The elastic stairway to the rising sun.
    Peril below thee and above, peril
    Within thy car; but peril cannot daunt
    Thy peerless heart: gathering wing and poise,
    Thy plane transfigured, and thy motor-chant
    Subduéd to a whisper—then a silence,—
    And thou art but a disembodied venture
    In the void.

    But Death, who has learned to fly,
    Still matchless when his work is to be done,
    Met thee between the armies and the sun;

    Thy speck of shadow faltered in the sky;
    Then thy dead engine and thy broken wings
    Drooped through the arc and passed in fire,
    A wreath of smoke—a breathless exhalation.
    But ere that came a vision sealed thine eyes,
    Lulling thy senses with oblivion;
    And from its sliding station in the skies
    Thy dauntless soul upward in circles soared
    To the sublime and purest radiance whence it sprang.

    In all their eyries, eagles shall mourn thy fate,
    And leaving on the lonely crags and scaurs
    Their unprotected young, shall congregate
    High in the tenuous heaven and anger the sun [Page 306]
    With screams, and with a wild audacity
    Dare all the battle danger of thy flight;
    Till weary with combat one shall desert the light,
    Fall like a bolt of thunder and check his fall
    On the high ledge, smoky with mist and cloud,
    Where his neglected eaglets shriek aloud,
    And drawing the film across his sovereign sight
    Shall dream of thy swift soul immortal
    Mounting in circles, faithful beyond death.

    That line is awesome, but this one is better

    High in the tenuous heaven and anger the sun [Page 306]

    I like the reflexive nod it has there to the fact the poem is going to be printed in a book somewhere.

    jk I do actually like those lines you bolded, they're cool!

    I don't think I like a single poem. Although a 2 line one may be ok if it's funny
