I'd say needing a MDT set for Cerb is more random fail then not bringing one to Cerb. Keep trying.

Needing? No, a DRK/SAM with no special gear can tank Cerb. I certainly don't need to carry a -50 MDT set for WAR in general events but I love optimizing and if I can save my mages a few hundred damage from a stray -ga or aoe why not? ^-^ If you own a good MDT set and don't bother using it, that's pretty gimp dawg.

Given I forgot nearly everything about PLD since I haven't done anything serious with it in over a year, but wouldn't a fire res be more effective than overall MDT/MDB for Cerberus?

I usually wouldn't post something as miniscule as this, but Thyme is probably one of the biggest retards I've encountered in Remora (actually, thats a lie, but he's still pretty dumb).

Not the fact that he didn't have echoes that bothered me. Its the fact that he has a 75 THF and 8.9k for echoes is just too fucking expensive apparently. He left without warning as well, and d/c'd himself from a party earlier before it even got started. He's BRD in both ptys.

I Carry Echos around when i'm doing something important, if it could be the difference between life or death... like any HNM situation, or solo'ing imps as SMN, on PLD just in case, etc etc.

But if you're invited to a Merit party, or exp party as a healer, your ass needs to Silena, it costs 24MP and takes a whole 1 Second to cast.

If he was at an HNM, or NM or something where Silence is a scarce issue and Echo drops are a good idea then he'd be a moron, but when its an IMP party, a mob that basically BREATHED silence, 8.9k a stack adds up to 890k a party when you have to silena yourself every other mob because mages are to incompetent and lazy to be assed to cast 1 spell.


These are just my thoughts anyway. However, the situation is COMPLETELY Different if he's a Mage himself. as i cannot see his job, he could very well be the main healer in which case he is indeed a Flamming moron.

Edit: He appears to be the BRD, I can't speak on that, if i was the main healer in a party i'd Silena Tank then BRD, then whoever else... but... 8.9k a stack doesn't seem like much on paper but when you're almost always within AoE Range of a mob that has 2 possible TP moves (most of the time) and one is a Silence, then Echo drops add up, he should always carry at least 1 stack for emergency situations (For instance if the healer didn't bring any and they got silenced etc)... So w/e.

Fire resist requires buffs, and typically for cerb GoH will get stunned. It's a poor use of resources to give PLDs carol for a move that likely will not get off.. if you can maintain a decent resist rate with only barspell it may be a decent option. Additionally, resist builds are a rather big sink to the inventory considering there are still situations you should be using a general MDT build 100%(JoL, ultima, AV meteor for a few examples). This brings the argument of utility(inventory spaces and an additional song vs special resist builds given you already have a MDT set that will reduce damage by nearly as much).

It wasn't a merit party. Level sync'd 70 in Caedarva. Also, he was bitching about being silenced while he was at the mob ready to pull. I'm not going out of my way to Silena someone who's too fucking lazy to buy echoes, let alone when they're all the way in BFE.

Exactly, having a basic MDT set is all you need for most things, but not having one is kinda like not having a Shield Skill or PDT setup, it's just part of the basics of the job imo. (Especially since some of the better MDT pieces are also good Enmity pieces)
