Accually the article you posted to isn't what I'm referring to as far as a problem goes, it is not the HDTV lag it's the fact that HDMI (at least from the PS3) does not support 480i which is the native resolution for the PS2, only certain games came with the ability to output in 480p or higher. What happens is that the signal has to be de-interlaced and then converted to progressive scan or higher depending on your resolution you choose for output. This adds some lag to the whole experience. The best example I can find of this is in Guitar Hero 3(I think) for the PS2 as it has both 480i a and 480p modes, if you play it in 480i mode it'll have a slight delay, if you move it over to 480p that goes away. Again its because HDMI doesn't support output of <480p resolution. Also I reccomend against using the unconverted feature on FFXI on the PS3, it washes out the graphics and further lags the game because the system must again re-encode the output resolution.
