I opened wiki in IE just to see and downloaded Main_Page. Changed it to a .txt file and opened with notepad. It was just normal HTML code. I don't think this error was a virus at all... just an error in displaying the pages.

One day I decided to try using bg-wiki to look things up instead of ffxiclopedia. I lasted about 15 minutes before I got tired of the incompleteness. I never understand it when people act as though it's actually a valid alternative.

On the actual thread topic, it looks like they have some sort of server configuration error at the moment. It's erratically serving pages as files. Seems to be mostly cleared up already though, I can't get it to happen any more.

Admins are updating something and I believe it is causing the issue. Probably best to wait a while until they fix the problem.

Same here. BG-wiki is a nice alternative, but it's too incomplete for me. Would be nice if the information could be updated.

You know Wiki has a dump command that anyone can use to basically copy all input wiki info, except icons and images.

There is also a upload command for the output files you get with dumping the data to put it back into the wiki.

Everything, special pages, templates, user pages. etc. Can be dumped.

You could just delegate some poor sap newbie bluegartr member to do all the Plagiar...err modifying work.

Say what you want about the FFXI wiki, the people that update that wiki do a ton more work than almost all the BG people combined. (Admittedly, some of it is completely crappy, but that is the nature of any wiki).

And whatever the wiki people did is now long forgotten and it's time to end this stupid "other" wiki thing when in fact almost everyone here uses the "other" wiki and not the BG one.

I never donated to the fund raiser so of course I don't give a shit what they did, really. The fact is normal wiki is much better and I've never had to pay for it while BG wiki is lacking and not really as much of a "stick it to 'em!" as the people who work on it would like to believe it is.

That's happened to me on other websites, I don't know if it's harmful or just some biproduct of an update they're doing.

What was done with the money was understandable given the circumstances. Some were just too impatient to wait for an explanation and jumped right into the mob mentality. Either way, the original wiki might have some problems, but the bg wiki is a joke if compared to it.
