You gotta be the only one who was disappointed...
Next week does look more epic, but I absolutely loved this episode. But I grew up on westerns.
Based off of the title I was expecting a hardcore Sergio Leone references, outside of the Title credits, and ~20sec of the showdown @ Fort Pierce, it felt more like a Borderlands themed episode. Which is kind of cool in its own way, but completely false advertising and not funny meta trolling like the Pulp Fiction/dinner with Andre episode.
The titles are almost always a play on a course offered at colleges hence the broader references, and even in dedicated spoofs like original paintball, Apollo 13, and the zombie episode, they maintain the college course title. The exception is cases like this where they have a specific title, i.e. Abed's Uncontrollable Christmas and Advanced Dungeons and Dragons, both of which pretty much laid out what they would be about in the title, making really specific references to w/e medium they were parodying. I'm not denying that this episode wasn't funny, but when I saw Fistful of Paintballs and western themed, I expected 22min of Sergio Leone references with some killer Lost jokes to generate broader references for those who wouldn't get the western references especially since they advertised Josh Holloway's return to network TV for 2 goddamn months.
I loved the Die Hard 2 nod with the guys in snow suits and the whole black rider part was just awesome too.
The Dean was back to wearing his skimpy outfits again. God I laughed when he said the key was in his pants and everyone stared at him.
Was an awesome episode. The western references were there, they weren't as huge and in your face as normal so I understand that you were disappointed, but in the end I loved the episode. Shirley in a western nun's habit with her big silver cross hanging around her neck. But then again, any episode where Annie is more in the front and less used as an object for Jeff to flirt with is a good thing. The only thing I was disappointed in was the lack of real Ahbed/Troy dynamic this week.
This episode was amazing. I especially liked Ahbed's character, he reminded me of Clint Eastwood from the Dollars trilogy.
I just rewatched the polical science episode, and paid attention to the tickets on the bottom. They mentioned "mysterious vent monster" and western themed end of year picnic. I love this show even more now lol.
ok so the Star Wars spoofing + Magnitude had me loling enough that idc that it wasn't a western spoof at all and there was no more Sawyer pop pop

Abed x Annie, whaaaat. haha

One of the funnier parts for me was the raising of the flags, its subtle but its there if you look at it.
We were watching the opening and as soon as the paintball stormtrooper said "There's one!" I went "Ohmigod, Star Wars!"
Abed and Annie should win a prize for best onscreen kiss.
Very funny episode, but I knew who was going to win the game before he won it. And what will happen to Pierce next season?
Cougar town characters was the best part for me. I love that the writers go back and forth. They were tweeting at eachother for a while then they made a reference to abed loving the show twice. On cougar town, Travis made his girlfriend watch the first season of community so when I saw them at the end I cracked up so hard.

Forgot to say, the music was quite spectacular. I'm not sure if it was riffing Inception or Dark Knight though.
