Old player wanting to get back into the game, here.

I play on a ps2, however can't get the POL to update. Every time I try, I get a pol-1661 error before it even downloads the files. No matter what time of day (I'm in the US) it always gives me the same error.

I'm using an ethernet cable that's hooked up directly to the modem, so no router is involved. However I use satellite internet (Hughes) because cable isn't available where I live. I also don't have WotG installed yet. Could either of these be the problem?

I'm at a loss, I stopped playing around '06 so I don't know if a previous update is making it screwy or what. Any help would be much appreciated.
