I've never been the type to get angry at my controller and actually its been a long time since I've played a hard console game. Last time I remember raging at a game was playing CoD4 and ragequitting at some online matches.
I am raging pretty hard with Continent of the Ninth PvP though. I'm sure I would have broken a controller if I wasn't playing on PC. I'm sure with Aion releasing today, I will have many many more rage moments in the near future >_>
Oh man, the minigames in FFX for weapons. I blocked most of those out. The lightning one was just monotonous but that damn butterfly game was vicious.
blitzball was so easy...i'd always just find someone who was really fast, like those weird looking guys in guadosalam (i forget the race's name), then literally just train their entire team and throw it as soon as they're all just barely out of range of getting into blocking position of your runner, then free goals.
I broke a few mics playing Socom 2 back when I was heavy into that game before FFXI came out on PS2.
My most video game rage moment was the original "Supply Lines" mission in GTA: San Andreas. I say original because they apparently patched it in the PC and xbox versions.
Mile High Club (I think it was) on Veteran in CoD4... Omg I must've been there for like 5 hours.
Incredible Crisis for PS1!
Game Informer has a feature this month on the biggest screw-overs in gaming. Some of these seemed fitting.
10 - Kings Quest V: 'the cat and the rat'
9 - Gears of War: single save slot
8 - Street Fighter II: Guile's Flash Kick
7 - Madden series: catch-up AI
6 - Guitar Hero 3: Lou
5 - Bushido Blade: Katze
4 - FFXII: Zodiac Spear
3 - Ghosts n' Goblins: the 'end'
2 - FF1: Warmech
1 - Battletoads: hover bikes / level 3
And I just remembered how much I hate wookies in BFBC. Sensor ball spamming bitches. =(. I wish I could choke that guy through the internet.
Fuck that. I had a 58 seconds record in Mario Raceway, but couldnt send the picture because the contest was everywhere in America except Quebec.
I don't remember much about Castlevania 64, but I do remember raging to the "if you want to continue, replay the game on hard difficulty" message 3/4 through the game. Why do you fucking bother adding an easy/normal mode if you can't finish the game.
Gold medal in blast corps were hard, but in a good way. That game was a lot of fun. Platinum medal on the other hand were just fucking impossible.
I did blink, and pressed like 3 times on the last lightning...luck was on my side that day. It was scary as hell though.
One of the most frustrating moment for me was the capture grind in omega dungeon. I was overpowered, so I went deep inside the dungeon and captured every monsters in one trip. I walked back to entrance, and right before the save point, I get a back attack against the stone tablet monsters. Petrify. Petrify. Petrify. Game over. I just walked away from the ps2...couldnt believe it.
Thinking back about it...rage inducing moment are pretty tame on consoles game. Breaking a craft in FFXI often result in more hour wasted than a full clear on a game like FFX or FFXII.
Honorable mention to the Mojo's Crunch stage in X-Men. I got stuck on that stage for months and kept getting game over trying to "reset the computer." If a game want's you to reset your console, it shouldn't be so vague.
Only time I've ever raged was on Donkey Kong 64. My sister had been bothering me all day to play, to the point where my dad had to intervene to make sure I was sharing. She was 11 or so I believe... Anyway, she starts jumping in the same hole over and over just so I would have a game over. I grabbed the N64 controller and laid waste to her forehead like a swing of Thor's Mjolnir.
I've had plenty of moments playing the PSP Monster Hunters
I don't really get frustrated too easily. I usually just sigh and try again. I don't think I've ever thrown a controller, but I remember playing GTAIV and trying to go for the achievement where you win a ranked online race without taking damage to your vehicle.
I FINALLY had a good race with a helicopter, and the finish line was right in front of me, and right before I reach it, the guy in 2nd place zooms up and smashes into me, which sends us both to our fiery deaths.
That was the last online GTA match I played.
I think it was Stage 3 in Battletoads (the one with the speed bikes). Nothing's ever pissed me off more than that.
