    Derren Brown

If you aren't aware of him you should check his vids out on youtube. You may have heard of him recently for predicting lottery numbers live. His latest vid in part of his recent tv thing has a subliminal clip thing near the end to make you stick to your seat and be unable to stand up. I really wanted to get this to work when I watched it but I just stood up right away and was dissapointed. Has anyone else watched it and end up getting stuck?

Ninjavideo.net - Derren Brown - How to Control the Nation
That's the link. Follow red text to make vid work and wait 5~ seconds after captcha before pressing play. He says you need a high res image for it to work but the quality is very good so it should be enough.

You have to read the red text, which will tell you to click a link to open a small window which will allow the divx video to load. after the captcha wait like 5 seconds before pressing play

Well divx quality online is just as good as any non hdtv, and if the original feed wasn't hd it should be fine. so if it's just a quality thing and not something that can be lost in conversion the vid quality should be just fine to see the effect.

I'm not really enjoying these recent things derren has done quite as much as his stuff I've dl'd or found on youtube in the past which are all pretty amazing. The vid last week of how he did the lottery prediction seemed like an excuse to show cool things but if you think that is actually what happened you are mistaken.

"The Heist" where he brainwashes people to rob a Security-Truck is ace.

Also love when he makes a volunteer pass out inside a photo booth in the UK and he wakes up in Morocco in the same booth as part of the "Trick or Treat".

Derren Brown is great. I think I've seen most of his stuff, too many noteworthy mind tricks and stunts, though I think my favourite has to be his "Mental Muggings", mostly because it's actually possible to perform, and works surprisingly well. See: Derren Brown - Mental Mugging (Russian Gypsy Scam) - Video

UK Peeps: 4 on demand has all his back catalogue of TV shows, including some of his events. Very very very very awesome.

the most recent sticking people to the couch thing last night was absolute BS.

The actual video he plays has nothing to do with it, the whole thing is done with the suggestion he proposes to the "victims" at the start, when he explains what you have to do, as well as a few subliminal images stuck in there, before and after the little video. You'd have to have the personality of a chicken to have it affect you like he hoped. Which some of the people he showed probably did.

liked the lottery thing though, and have his books.

Any moron can do what he did with the lottery. It's obvious what he did. It's a split camera.

Yes, the actual video was little more than a random spinning pattern, which was used to cement the idea of his suggestion. He reinforces the videos supposed effect by talking about it a lot, saying it will work, and showing videos of other supposed victims of the video.

You're quite right that the actual suggestion began when he was addressing the audience telling people what to do. By complying with his instructions on how to seat yourself, how you'll feel and so on, you're submitting to the suggestion that it will have an effect on you.

For the record, I was actually more interested in the little stunts he did before the actual event. I liked the giraffe part a lot, I like his PWA scenes. Usually I'm aware of them straight away, and I spend the entire duration looking for examples and clues (before he gives them away at the end )

I don't quite follow. You're saying there was a cut in the footage where it goes live after the drawing, with the numbers on the balls?

As far as I'm aware it was all shot on a single camera with no cut aways completely live.

I'd be tempted to believe he might have rigged the drawing, if it were indeed completely real, considering that the actual effort needed to pull it off actually isn't that great, so long as you remain undetected.

leading theory on the lottery was he used lasers to project the numbers onto the balls he showed.

Yeah, the giraffe bit was really good, but entirely predictable. I really liked the beggar one, where he convinced people to feel more charitable just with a few subliminal messages. I think the guy who gave up his shoes was probably scripted though.

That wasn't subliminal really, it was Perception without Awareness.

The sitting thing didn't work for me either, since i am not a person who is "open" to suggestion. I'll agree that the main reason behind the controlling the nation stunt was the subliminal images he used during the show and generally not the video.

I lvoe some of the stuff he pulls in his live shows, like the newspaper one where he plays back the subliminal messages, "the things we can choose...daily mail. and so on and so forth"

I love Derren Brown, his show is one of only 2 or 3 TV programmes I actually watch, I always find them interesting. Chair trick didn't work on me either but I agree it was set up during the whole show, it was a weird feeling I had

There once was this NM that had the same effect on people but SE nerfed it.

In all seriousness though, I am always curious about things like this but I don't like having my mind messed with so I do not do them. Like the Jim Kerry skit where he turns into a homeless man who thinks he is a chicken. This is because he let himself be hypnotized years before and the hypnotist died of a heart attack on stage before he could bring him out of the trance. :X
