    Best Craft?

I know leather is amazing, almost as amazingly stupid as this thread...but hey. I was just wondering what's probably the best constant money-making craft out there and how much generally would it cost to level it to 100ish. I know leather gives you big spikes with the HQs, but what's maybe a cheaper and more consistent craft to do for profit? Just thinking about money for funding my Aegis and I have only about $4000 in my bank account which roughly translates to about 3/4 of the currency I need to buy.

If you're on any server other than Odin I'd say fishing.

Here's my point of view on crafting, and I'm sure I'll catch some heat for it. Now days, you basically level a craft to 100 for fun, if you plan on doing it for money then you'd better plan on investing some serious time, AH/bazaar mules, and inventory space into the ordeal. Unless you spend countless hours farming mats you'll spend millions upon millions getting your main craft to 100 and appropriate subs to 60. From that point you'll be in the hole 3m (?) at best and need to dig yourself out of that first. I mean sure don't get me wrong, if you get lucky as hell and HQ a T0 like 1/10 then you'll be out of that fast, but if you are planning on steady gil it's going to take you awhile to get out from behind that barrier let alone make 150m for aegis.

I have leather at 100 with subs on a mule and I swear it takes 50+ inventory slots to carry around my normal mats. On the flip side I recently contemplated deleveling cooking to 100 and taking smithing to 100 since I have almost all subs to 60 on my main and we have no smither in the LS but then realized the millions that I dump in I'll never make back due to sheer personal laziness and limited inventory space.

So in summary, if you are willing to invest a ton of time, inventory space, and mules to sell items into crafting I have no doubt you can make gil with any craft to 100 with appropriate subs, but if not you're not going to spend hours a day then you probably won't profit nearly enough to fund a relic or even cover your leveling costs.

Agreeing with cdreg, most crafts don't bank on consistent money and instead have a spiked profit when you HQ.

The crafts that don't follow this are woodwoorking, cooking, and fishing. So a smart person would level cooking and fishing, allowing you to catch your own fish, and cuts the already low cost of leveling fishing down even further.

The vast majority of expensive food synths costs are from a fish, so that cuts out a huge chunk of money.

The other combo is woodworking and fishing, which is what I took. Woodworking makes very consistent money via bolts, arrows, and whatnot. Not only that, but the ability to repair your own lu shangs rod on site widens your range of fish you can target, including the legendary liks and gugrasuaures. Fishing doesnt really cost a penny to take to 100, in fact I've estimated I made about 5 million gil by the time I've hit 95.

Example, normally making shihei is kinda profitable, but with high level woodworking and fishing, I can sit for an hour and catch a bunch of nebimonites, ahtapots, whichever is clsoe at hand, make all the ink I need, then proceed to mass HQ shihei and end up with an entire stack of toolbags for a total cost of about 5K.

tl;dr: cooking+fishing or woodworking+fishing are your most steady income synths. They're the only ones where you dont need money to make money. (And by money I mean 500k on hand+)
