Are you grinding the Ely version of Plat Coin mobs? That's what I plan to be doing from 45-50 @_@. Some people are able to get the coins for their wpns by 50.

You do realise every +1 enhancement level on a shield offers a straight up 2% damage reduction meaning he has 35% base w/ +14% from enhancement giving him 49% reduction....

Do the difference in base stats ( 40% reduction and a good chunk of block/defence ) make up for that straight 9% advantage?

no, 49% is better.
