Metroidvania games? halp?

20-30 sounds right. And I didn't even get everything. What really gets me about this game is the atmosphere. It elicited a lot of emotion too. Some things in the game scared the piss outta me. But you're completely right when you say that the soundtrack is worth it. It fits the mood well. The singing aspect is really fun, to the point that I purposefully avoided using the shortcut keys (1-9).

As for replay... not so much. You'd know where everything is, and it's too long to speedrun. There are two endings, but it's more of an addition to the original ending. So getting the 'better' one shows the other. While it has nearly 0 replay, there is a sequel coming. And there might be user created maps, but I haven't really looked into that.

I might have to get it, once I clear a bunch of backlog games. Out of the games in this thread I've tried, it def. ranks up in my top few along with SotN and Super Metroid

Did you play with your controller or a mouse? Controller was a little weird at first but seemed a little more comfortable in the long run, but idk.

I used WASD to move, keyboard to lunge, and mouse to sing. I use a laptop, so swimming with that mouse is kinda bothersome.

And I just love WASD.

Cave Story is probably the best non Casle/Metroid game on that list. You might also want to check out La Mulana. Another freeware PC game that uses the "explore around, fight shit, get items to explore around some more, etc." formula that makes Metroidvanias so great. Beware that it is really fucking brutally hard.

Ugh, I had to check YouTube out for video walkthroughs because I couldn't find my way into the first dungeon on my own. Still haven't actually been able to do it myself, so the game sits on my hard drive.

did you buy aquaria or did you torrent it? Just curious if you think it's worth buying, and if there even is a good torrent for it

I originally downloaded the demo from bitblot's website (it's also available for mac, through Ambrosia software), which was pretty long. Most places online had it for 30 bucks, but Steam has it for $19.99 so I just bought that.

edit: yea from what I can tell this is a huge game, probably worth 30 bucks, for 20 it's a great deal.

played this, it has a few issues with the widescreen so sprites will popup on either side, kind of ugly, but hardly noticable.

I ended up buying Aquaria. It's really a beautiful game, and pretty fun.
