Are there any recent GeForce drivers that are tailored to playing FFXI? I know there are some ancient ones out there...
There was a link in the tech forum to nvidia drivers that supposedly worked the best with FFXI - NVIDIA DRIVERS 174.74 BETA - from march 08, not sure what your definition of ancient is. I'm assuming you mean for vista since it seems to have such problems with ffxi/nvidia.
I switched to these and noticed a much better framerate than before. Previously I was using omega drivers but it seems like every so often my framerates will drop to shit and switching drivers fixes it.
I did a computer upgrade recently, including new video card. I love it, I'm finally able to crank up my settings and the game looks pretty decent.
But for the life of me, I can't figure out why Alzadaal Undersea Ruins is so dark and green now. And it seems to only be Alzadaal. Any ideas?
Spoilered for size.

Here's one of my shots from March-ish before I quit that I posted previously in one of the help threads for improving FFXI graphics. No touchups or anything, just high end options set in ATT. I don't use Catalyst, it's too clunky for me.

Copied your Nvidea settings, and it's a pretty drastic difference. Almost too vibrant, a bit cartoony. I'm gonna give it a few days and decide if I like it or not.

Feels good man
ATI cards can also do digital vibrance, except it's called Avivo colour:

This is running on my 4 year old laptop, though on a second monitor (keyboard boarked along with vertical lines on the 17" monitor @.@). The graphics card is an old Geforce 7600 Go. Nothing fantastic, but pretty solid for such an old lappy. Plan on repairing this laptop (less than $200 to fully repair it) since the laptop I got to replace it is specifically for media/programming/composing (i.e. homework). That laptop runs FFXI like crap <,<

here's a shot from WG been dumbed down by photobucket but whatever.
I used to use the modded drivers but nVidia recently(2 months ago?) released official drivers that work. My only problem with it is that whenever I try to change focus from FFXI the entire system hangs for about 2 seconds. Apparently I'm one of about 10 people with this problem so you'll probably have better luck.
Might as well post mine:

Scaled down by Photobucket but original res was 2048x1152 with 1.5x bg res.
So, I used to run FFXi just fine on my Nvidia 7600 (I think LE?) with XP and recently changed PCs to Vista x86 and a Nvidia 9400GT. For some reason, my frame rate is garbage. Like, really bad. Is this just a Vista thing? Or am I using too recent drivers? I'm using 190.62, the most recent release on their webpage for that model card. It's difficult even dualboxing now, and I used to handle up to 3 in places like Astralburns without many problems.
Tech scurrs me D: and I saw people talking about Nvidia drivers here so thought I'd ask.
To add to teh collection, ye oooooooolde pic from my old graphics card:

AMD Athlon 3800+ 2xcore 2.0GHz, 800x600 since I like running two at a time side by side, Nvidia 7600. Long since fixed that border issue, just don't have many recent pics uploaded on photobucket and I'm lazyyyy.
When my graphics card blew up they looked like this:

Tinypic kind of made it a little fuzzy though..
Using a Radeon HD 4600 series. 1920x1080
(inb4 silenka says things about it ._.)
The nice thing about the OP was he posted how he got his screens to look nice. It would be good if people would do that when they post so others can try the same, i'm sure most people have the hardware capable of it, but not all know what to do to get the better looking shots.
Thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiis
I'm still a graphic knowledge newbie, I could probably get my ffxi to look better but
I dont know howwwwwwwwwwww
I copied some of Nishida's settings, cause I have a GeForce too, but I still think I could push it more, or at least find a way to get rid of the remnants of the 'ground shimmering' problem I've been having.
Here's my graphics now:

Here they are on my last card (same exact card) with settings that were almost perfect imo that I don't remember how to get back:

Maybe you can't see the difference too well...lol. I think the main difference can be seen in the trees though, mine now look kind of ...'sharp' thanks to the shimmer effect.
I'd post my settings but they aren't really impressive. That shot was taken on my crappy PC with a Radeon X300. The processor is decent but other than that...Meh lol. I'd like to tweak my laptop(which is much newer) to max settings but I'm afraid it will explode.
