Licensing, maybe. The game features a lot of real people, real stuff, real locations, and so on.

EDIT: 13% could be called a lot, but I could see all the hostess stuff(including the "make your own hostess" sidequests) being over 8-10%.

"I wanna go to tokyo" being cut is WEIRD. What the fuck, it's a story where you meet a girl in Okinawa, encourage her to move to Tokyo, then find her getting fired from job after job in Tokyo when it turns out she can't hack it.

The Love's Cupid quests are also harmless...Jesus Christ Sega I could have translated it for you...

A Trip Before Tokyo is a massive cut, there's like four quests that follow it, unless somehow they've kept the followups in.

Manga Artist Debut might have been cut for licensing reasons. Young Magazine is a real publication. They could have just renamed it...lazy shits.

Great Genius Showdown

This is the 'history' quiz game they cut out. It's actually a general knowledge quiz game that requires fluent japanese and a better than superficial understanding of common japanese cultural references (for example, knowing famous baseball players and what years they were active in Japan). The mission itself, however, changes 100% of the questions from general trivia to Yakuza 1/2 trivia, which would have been crazy awesome had they kept it in.

One of the most hilarious missions in the game...cut for what are probably fears of puritanical backlash against the big 'reveal' at the end.

Man this shit sucks. Sega really pissed themselves, despite the examples set by Rockstar that yes, America can handle everything in its videogames. Cutting shogi/mahjong is equally ridiculous seeing as how both games survive completely intact in Yakuza 2.

Oh I meant to ask, since all these side quests are apparently cut out, can you still max, or get close to max with Kiryu? I know that's a lot of xp potentially gone.

the game always gave more exp than you needed to max out your stats. I don't know the exact calculations of all the cut missions since I don't know the full extent, but to put things into perspective a jump from level 6 to level 7 requires 50k experience. From 7 to 8 requires 75k experience. A mission will on average reward 7-10k experience, so losing a few isn't that huge a dent. Losing more than, say, 20 might be problematic if they don't inflate the exp gain from combat/eating/defeating bosses.

This list is 100% accurate. After completing 100 quests, all the hitman missons and the IF7 fights, I am able to get the final quest, Amon.
There were 123 sidequests in RGG3, there are only 101 in Yakuza 3 (Including Amon).

So, looks like 22 quests were cut, and whatever else. I think that's a little more than 1%

This is just a reference, in case anyone here wanted to know the full extent of sidequest cuts.

That absolutely fucking disgusts me. The previous two Yakuza games were fairly close to intact when compared to the JP versions. But 22 quests is not 1%. That is a fuckload of stuff to nix from the final game. I mean seriously, you cut out the hostess clubs. I get it. But then you just add random ho's inside random restaurants that you end up banging anyways. It seems like Sega realized that they have an audience for Yakuza here stateside whereas Yakuza 1 & 2 were pretty a no lose situation for them. They weren't going to make a ton of money off a dying system's games, so why bother cutting anything potentially offensive out? But now that it's on a next gen system with much more fanfare, Sega didn't want to offend anyone on this. A fucking shame.

I love the game and I think it's fantastic, but it disgusts me knowing how much shit I'm missing out on because off the "racy" topics involved in them. You fucking blew it Sega. Period. You fucking lied about how much you were cutting out. I'm extremely disappointed that the company would be pussified this much.

How is the game for spoken dialogue?

i.e. is the majority of the game voiced or text? Just asking cause I'm near fluent in spoken japanese and may just import it, I was waiting for an american release but fuck it with so much cut content. If not then I guess I'll settle, after playing 3 long RPGs I don't want to see my pocket kanji dictionary for awhile.

There is a lot of spoken dialogue, and only a minority of it happened during missions. Even dating cabaret girls was largely unspoken text.

Alright beat it last night. All in all the story was a tad weaker than the previous two entries. But still enjoyable. The supporting characters weren't anything truly spectacular with the exception of Mine imo. And as always another twist omfg ending. Anyone else finish it up? Thoughts? Criticisms?

Not even close to finished. On Hard some of the bosses are pretty damn difficult(mostly meaning: They have HUGE health bars). Also... "Surprisingly, dogs love hamburgers" lol

EDIT: The pacing at the start was a little confusing. Perhaps I missed the "2 years earlier" screen.

EDIT: Also one great thing about this game: If you do a heat special attack you are bound to get a reaction from your friends watching. Fun for the whole family.

I'm particularly fond of the Heat Actions Mack sends you to learn. I'm routinely getting Kiryu drunk to do the Pole Dancing Mastery action on some punkasses.
