Real manly thread about real manly things

When you are watching a movie, reading something, playing something, listening to something, etc., what is the favourite emotions/feelings that they can evoke in you?

Personally, I like either the bittersweet feeling that comes from coming so close to succeeding at a goal yet failing for whatever reason. Things along these lines are probably my favourite.

I also like the feeling that there is much more ahead even though it is still unrealized.

    to actually read the OP:

I actually enjoy movies that make me sad or bring out an extreme emotion I wouldn't have otherwise had awoken that day

-The Fountain brought out feelings of absolute loss
-Dancer in the Dark shattered me, really wasn't expecting that
-Clockwork Orange turn my morals on their side against my wishes, this was a bit disorienting for 2 days as I thought about this
-Blow and Traffic and Requiem for a Dream all in their own way showed the desperation and the extremes that people will go through for drugs/addiction, and these all coming out roughly around the same time gave me an appreciation for movies with the theme of addiction -- especially when Johnny Depp's character fiiiiinally learned his lesson
    Spoiler: show
the day before he went to jail

tl;dr extreme emotions I wouldn't have otherwise felt that day

I like getting random-ass shivers when listening to music that catches me by surprise. Feels good.

as for music, I like to be taken on a trip, or to relive a memory which is essentially the same

the first time I listened to:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HAodQG2jOJY
I was actually laying on my bedroom floor, not having the greatest day (I was 16 and moody) and the lyrics "Lost your head, now you sleep on the floor; what you said, I don't want anymore" definitely spoke to me

godspeed you black emperor's first 26ish minute song on their double album took me through quite a trip staring up at my ceiling in 1st year university. music played a pretty key part of my development at that time, I would go for walks with my headphones on, listening to Kid A and Amnesiac or Mogwai or Godspeed or Bjork and see people in a whole new way

sometimes an intense empathy or sadness for what I perceived they must be going through or missing, or othertimes just riding the highs and lows of the emotions brought on by thom yorke's amazing voice, or bjork's bizarre yet personal lyrics

a lot of times I don't even hear what they're saying and I try not to set a destination when I put on my headphones with a purpose like this.

This. Also sad videogames. Even though most sad videogames are not sad at all.

wait what? do I really have to give this a chance? any 80s movie where 3+ women are gathered around a kitchen table talking about anything at all makes me want to avoid at all costs

one of less than 3 songs that made me cry the first time I heard it, and I cannot think of what the rest of the 3 might be if at all:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oHO6pbjQ9ec

I was 19, my girlfriend and I had been standing near the window in her room, it was dim and this CD was playing for the first time, I don't recall what we were talking about, but what she was saying was lost to me as I was swept up in this song and I just stood there holding her

also from Rock Action, 2 rights make 1 wrong:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nqh1S87pwlQ

in all honesty I prefer the original, for all the nuances, most of all the voice singing words I can't quite make out but imparting feeling nonetheless

a decent live version below but the vocals are basically lost:

tool's third eye was probably the first song to blow my mind, I was 16, laying on the couch with headphones on just listening to it on repeat, and actually getting partially freaked out
