I have a feeling that the Keno they released just before the shuttle departed (as a message in a bottle) is going to come back and bite them in the ass later on in the season, like some sort of enemy finding it and knowing all about them and using that information to take over Destiny.

I hope that now that they have power they nerd out a bit more and talk about the technology on the ship, one of my biggest gripes about SG:A was that they didn't spend nearly enough time exploring the city.

I can not seeing him as KNOWING, He may have had an idea that the ship was up to something but did not want to chance it by telling the col. to not send those people just in case his hunch was wrong.

I don't like the whole "what if Rush knew" angle. We all know he didn't and the rest of the crew already doesn't trust him, so I don't see what's gained by introducing it.

I'm warming up to Grier. He's turning out to be one of those guys with his own weird set of morals. He seems to be fiercely loyal to a few people and willing to fuck over anyone else.

Overall a decent episode, but I'd like some action next week.

Just because we're watching doesn't mean we know he did or didn't know that would happen. There's a good chance he considered it was a possibility or else we're supposed to believe this super smart dude didn't consider what some random bunches people on the internet did (which is also considerably more simple to figure out than what Eli figured out that he couldn't, most sci-fi geeks have encountered something that would work like a star scoop function that would've let us connect that as a possibility).

As for what's gained by introducing it, that's really up to the writers, it certainly allows for a less-than-completely-noble intent on Rush's part, maybe not a 'I'll kill you all when I can' intent, but he doesn't necessarily need to have the good of everyone on board in mind as past main characters have in the Stargate and Stargate: Atlantis series

Even if we don't know what caused the event that led him to beng in detention at the beginning of the series, at least we know why he was. It had been bugging me. From what I've seen, I support anybody who knocks out Telford.

But we do. One of the oldest rules in storytelling is that if a character is alone, they're being honest. We all saw Rush's face light up when he went to the control room. Was he putting on a show then? If so, for whom? No one was there.

Let's pretend he did know. What does he gain by the charade? He gets some people off Destiny? To what end? He knew it couldn't be the whole crew and that those left behind would want to get the others back on board, and if he really wanted those on the shuttle gone, he could've just kept his mouth shut when he thought of the slingshot, or fed Scott the wrong calculations and then blamed it on Eli.

Well, when I say he's willing to fuck everyone else over, I was referring to him stealing food in the premiere.

I don't know about you, but when I want to trick people into believing something that isn't true, I act as if it isn't true at all times, it helps keep me in the mindset. Whether or not the writers are thinking this way and want us to think he's acting that way, or simply forgot about that scene (or Rush's actor forgot?) and it was missed in editing or they're just trying to mess with us is a matter to be resolved later as things develop further. I'm simply choosing to keep all possibilities in mind.

Keeping your reader (viewer in this case) guessing is also a classic storytelling rule, and in any case, story telling rules aren't unalterable for the purpose of the show. It being one of the oldest rules as you so eloquently put it makes it more vulnerable to change, especially due to the nature of TV shows and being able to view the character as a person more than just so many words allows for a writer to trick their viewers into thinking one thing so there can be a less predictable 'plot twist' later on.

It is a rule because it makes sense for the purpose of realism, and is honestly more for readers than for writers. I don't think most people put on plays for empty rooms, and a character who does so is less believable to me. If they later reveal Rush did know, I will consider it poor writing.

As for the scene being missed in editing or the actor forgetting(forgetting what he was supposed to know? you weren't clear there), they wouldn't film a scene with that reaction and print it if the character was supposed to know. The director would've made him reshoot it or the scene would never have been in the script.

Also, I still don't see what Rush had to gain by the lie.

Edit: Forgot to put this in my first post about this ep, but poor Eli got slingshotted into the friend's zone.

If you want to throw in the realism card, we all pretty much knew that the ship would do something before it did. Rush probably suspected the same but couldn't be 100% sure. If he was sure, I bet he'd tell everyone. He just wouldn't want to be the person that irreversibly screwed up people's lives twice in a month, especially causing the death of more people if he was wrong.

Maybe he did lie though or fluffed it, about his reasons for wanting to stay.

tbh, the guy who stirred up trouble and got knocked out, I thought that he would go on a killing rampage for the drama effect, but I'm a cynic :3

Yes, Rush should have figured it out but that's not evidence of a scheme on his part, it's evidence of the writers underestimating their audience. They didn't think people would see the ending coming, because if they did, why keep so predictable an ending? I know people will say that a lot of series are predictable because you know the main characters will survive, but the suspense in those cases is meant to come from not knowing how they survive and in this case we knew exactly what would happen before the episode even began.

Edit: Also, after thinking about it, the writers were just getting us back to the status quo. People were starting to like and trust Rush and they don't want that.

It's unrealistic to be happy about being correct? Even if I know for a fact something good is about to happen in my life I tend to smile when it does happen, even with no one else around. I must be unrealistic an individual.

At first I thought that was going to be the suicide the writers talked about. They made a point of showing him taking those pills that had a caution symbol on them. Maybe it was just to show he was unstable and those were his happy pills, idk.

If he knew or suspected and said nothing, I don't see what he stands to gain. However, if he knew and did tell everyone, it's a can't-lose situation where if he's right it's one more thing for him to be smug about and to throw in people's faces when they doubt him, and if he's wrong everyone dies and it doesn't matter anyways. Also, if he suspected but wasn't sure, I don't think he'd be reading that book in his quarters. He would be in the control room doing anything he could to make sure the Destiny recharged even if all he could do was monitor displays.

I think what Deftscythe is trying to convey is, the suprise on his face when he first saw that the ship was not going to be destroyed, when he was all alone, conveyed a genuine emotion and he wasn't just putting on a show for someone. I believe his reaction at the very end leads me to believe he had a hunch/hope that the ship had a plan. But I am sure he did not want to say anything in case he was wrong.
