As a way of helping the crew out when they were attacked, he overloaded the ship's electic grid to cause the shields to flicker, and through overloading them, burning the guy to the ground. Hence why the ship can't jump again, as jumping would result in the ship being torn apart with flickering shields.

I figured it was the shields failing and dude got struck down by some intense solar radiation or something. I guess I could see that guy being 'one with the ship' now, who knows. What I don't get is why they didn't vent the room when they arrived. When Rush snapped back, TJ should have radioed Young since she knew his plan.

And why is it when coming through a 9 chevron gate they come flying out like a catapult, but I guess 8 chevron gates are just walk thru? Maybe you pick up a little momentum travelling across galaxies and not just through a ssytem...

    For Uzor and meeeeeep.

I thought the guy that sat in the chair, if I remember right, as soon as he was hooked up to the chair he spoke very clearly, "leave", and it started to super cool that room. (the window started to frost over remember) I just assumed from that, that as he was accessing the the computer his brain was over heating and the room/ship was trying to keep him alive by cooling down the processor just like we do in our pc's. I have just thought he got too warm and just went "poof" and there wasn't much ash left. But maybe he was able to "upload" part of his conscience to the ship before he died. (yea I'm gonna call him dead)

And I was thinking like Purrrfect,

As this new out-of-galaxy gate connected it knocked them out of their FTL before the ship wanted them to. I thought that there might be a Pulsar/Magnetar in close proximity to the ship. Not close enough that the gravitational field of that star would knock them out of FTL, (like the planet they found that appeared to be created by someone. the one that the data base said should not be there), but close enough that its radiation is able to just bombard the ship. And the shields just are not strong enough right now to stop all of it. No one by windows are getting baked it was just the guy that just had the shit luck to steep under a hole in the hull. The shield was flickering like maybe it was being hit by radiation. This radiation could be the reason the ship is screwed up right now, it dropped out got nailed before it could get it shields up, or better yet could not raise the shields because of the inc. gate and got messed up by the over exposure of radiation while the gate was active. Rush said systems are offline and there is no timer for the re jump.

I don't get why they didn't just vent the room when they all came in, rendered them unconscious, un-vented, took all their weapons, picked up Whatshisname, then dumped 'em off on some craptastic planet or something.

They needed a plot device. The episode would have ended in 10 seconds if things went by logic.

I don't know how accurate it is, but they already established that venting the atmosphere like that requires CPR for recovery and is still a little dodgy even if you administer it ASAP.

Having established that it's not unreasonable for Young to have thought it was too much of a risk to Rush given that oxygen deprivation may take longer to affect some people than others and that Telford's body might be damaged in some way from the suffocation incident earlier.

    Spoiler: show

Ill go also with the guy absorbed is now the ships mind, and about the Voyager-like merging crews Im all for it, most of the cast right now has zero charisma besides Young-Rush-Greer so If they add some interesting characters the rest can die whenever they like.

God shes such a pain in the series and the soldier guy shes with is a slut too very annoying characters. Anyone else just wish they wouldn't film the show so dark it gets really difficult to see whats going on.

    Spoiler: show
Totally agree with the guy becoming part of the ships mind, and he some how lowered the shield to fry the guy but not blowing out all the atmosphere. Does anyone else wonder what the hell Kiva is up to sure shes on an ancient ship but they are now stuck in the ass end of the universe with no immediate way back, what good does that do her???

    1. the explosion is a good explanation for why they got shot out of the gate, however if you remember the first few eps of SG1 they didn't have some thing setup correctly which caused the ride to be "bumpy" they also came out of the wormhole with some frost on them as well as being disoriented. i think they fixed this by re-aligning the gates or something to do with star vibration or something. that could be another explanation for the shooting out of the gate thing.

    2. i was under the impression that telford mentioned something about solar radiation when he was telling them the plan about flanking them, however the shield flickering thing could have easily been caused by a power short but the way they made it seem mysterious definitely could lead to the guy who disappeared into the ship although i assumed that guy ascended as the whole absorbed into the ship thing i didn't buy originally.

    Stellar drift!

And I thought it was just such an incredibly long distance it was not as smooth as inter galaxy travel. Well going one galaxy away to atlantis wasn't that bad so I guess it has to be more than that distance to get bumpy. Remember the 1st time Jack got the download in his brain and use a staff weapon's power source to modify the power to the gate so he could dial out to Aurilla (the azguard) using an eight chevron address? When he came out of that gate he had some speed and took a face plant. So maybe that distance was more than earth to atlantis.

I still say it just crap timing and the ship got messed up by radiation.

    stellar drift that's it!

and ya i think it was kinda just random with the shields failing and some kind of solar radiation or some other jazz

Completely agree... I don't find her too annoying when she's with the kid, but she's so pompous otherwise. All in all I dont find any of the civilians all that interesting in general save for Rush. Least the scientists have a sense of "I work for the military" where Chloe and Ray are just entitled bitches.

Basically because losing pressure is not about suffocating people. The actual loss in air pressure would cause things to expand in the vacuum and they would die. Its not like running out of air in another genre where thats just cause you are filling the room with CO2 instead of O2. Here everything is gone and soft shit explodes.

Again it was a plot device and I totally agree that it would have been much more interesting if he had done it. No matter if dude was brainwashed, dude still slept with his wife after all.

I highly doubt "radiation bombarded it soon as they exited jump and as such was unable to get shields up", mainly because its been stated earlier that shields are a requirement to jump in order to prevent the ship from getting teared apart. That means that without shields, they can't jump. As such, the shields were up when the ship stopped, as well, so it is unlikely the radiation prevent the ship from starting up again (especially considering the ship can travel through stars; So it is unlikely the radiation itself prevent the shields from working).

Additionally, if the ship didn't have shields up, the giant hole in the ceiling would suck them out in to space. So its obvious the shield is active.

I'm pretty sure the early anomalies with the gate in SG-1 were due to the SGC having to cobble together the gate-system computer to compensate for the lack of a DHD.

Apparently this is not the case in the Stargate Universe because they just did it to Telford like two episodes back and nothing exploded, he just passed out.

it was stellar drift, it was already explained above. they fixed it after the first several episodes

Stellar drift was the reason none of the other gate addresses worked until they figured out how to compensate for it in the pilot.
