As for re-materializing matter that hasn't completed going through, I think that was an issue in the episode of SG-1 where Teal'c got 'stuck' inside the gate. But it was so long ago I can't remember.

They accounted for the icing effect the same way they reasoned that the Stargate was only able to dial to Abydos at first, stellar drift or whatever. They would get iced because it was a 'bumpy ride'.

about static enemies, I think they mean that there won't be any massive multi-season wars like how they had before: goa'uld, ori, and wraith. there'll be reoccurring enemies though like of course, the lucian alliance

Yeah and I think a planted lucian alliance operative is sounding like the best bet, especially with the season finale being titled "insurrection"

I believe for the Atlantis Gate + Puddle Jumper, it was reading everything as being part of the ship = 1 discrete unit, there is obviously a limit as to what it would consider a discrete unit and it logically attempts to connect things as they entered the gate... if they scrapped the idea of rematerializing anything that has already gone through, it would explain why they couldn't place the people in and just wait.

I think it would be somewhat akin to a sending a Jumper itself, if it theoretically got through to the point where any Drones stored inside were through, I doubt it would rematerialize only the drones if the rest didn't make it through before the 38 minutes

That was explained with having something to do with the dialing computer being *just* off a little bit. It was "fixed" later on, which is why the SGC stopped having an earthquake everytime it gate was dialed.

One amusing thing that the retroactively cut was how a Zat was stun - kill - disintegrate. It was cool the first time it was shown, but so fucking stupid. I'm glad it was cut back into a stun device that can kill with multiple shots.

I never bought the disintegrate bit...

As for two shot kill, I think it needs to be two rapid shots, if you just stun someone and wait a minute or longer then a second shot won't kill them etc

The "safety Mechanism" Rush was counting on wasn't keeping the gate open for longer than the 38 minutes, it was keeping the ship from jumping to FTL while the gate was active. Arm in Gate, Gate can't shut down, Ship can't jump.

Oh yeah, I knew that was changed too. In later seasons you saw people zat'ed a couple times without dying, in fairly quick succession. It seemed like by the time they were done playing with what the Zat does, three quick bursts were enough to kill people usually.

Which, to be honest, seemed reasonable after they were done toying with it. I just though when the Zat was first introduced it was a fairly lulzy weapon.

just watched the 3rd ep and that ship at the end was definetly not a pod or escape ship of any kind, it looked completely different from the main ship imo

could have been a number of things i guess

ep was overall pretty good, some of the characters are lacking, and what happened to the idiots that went to that other gate? did we ever find that out?

They were there at the end with absolutely no explanation as to how they got back / what they saw or anything. AFAIK

Wat. I didn't even see that. For something starting off so good I'm going to rage if they leave a plothole that huge open since it was part of the fucking 4th & 5th arcs.

Edit - Just rewatched it. I can't say anything for the marine or the douchebag scientist, but that geologist with the long, burnt-blonde hair wasn't in any of the following scenes after they got back. There's the black haired marine with her hair in a pony-tail, but not the burnt-blonde scientist who had her hair completely down.

I might be wrong I just remember when they were coming through at the end there was quick like "oh you're back too, yay" thing.

I might have the wrong people.

I don't believe they were there..

Btw this is the first Stargate show I've ever watched; will I be completely lost without seeing any of the other shows, and are they worst watching?

What is the quality like on the old eps?

I think you may be confusing them with the team of 3 marines Young sent to search for Scott and Grier.

yea, the 2 people that went through the gate to the locked-out address never made it back to the ship.

it'll help explain some things, but SG-1 is 10 seasons long and Atlantis is 5. I'd recommend starting with the first 2 seasons or so of SG-1, which you can watch on Hulu.com or in the links earlier in the thread. Chances are you'll get hooked after that, it's pretty high quality sci-fi TV.

edit: Did anyone else watch Sanctuary on friday? This season looks great so far ;o

It always bugged me that Atlantis didn't have Zats. Zats present a non-lethal option for dealing with hostile natives and, most importantly from Atlantis' perspective, they don't require ammunition. The expedition had no idea if or when they would be resupplied, what did they plan to do when their p90s were running on empty?

Conversely, did the wraith have anything besides stunners for their troops? I know that each person represented a possible meal to them so they'd want to keep as many alive as possible, but what about armed resistance? They would have to stun every member of an enemy ground force before they could grab any of them, and by the time you got the last, some of the first might start waking up. Not to mention dealing with rival wraith.

The staffweapons require a "powerpack" to function, and I'm guessing the zats would use something similar, and that it will eventually run out. But I agree that it would probably be more efficient than a P90 who chews up a clip in a few seconds.

Staff weapons are also considerably more damaging per shot than zats are... but that is a good point, either way, they should've had zats for sure, ammunition levels have always bugged me in this show, SGU hopefully won't be too much shooting or I'll nerdrage
