    Windows 7 Prof. -> Ultimate?

    Is it possible to upgrade from Windows 7 Prof. to Ultimate? I bought the $30 student upgrade to Windows 7 Prof., but eventually I want to have Ultimate as it has the Multi-Lingual Interface and I would want to switch the OS to display Japanese for everything.

    Only reason I didn't just flat out by Ultimate is because there is no student discount for it, so I figured I could just upgrade into it at a later date. When I researched the Windows Upgrade Anytime feature, it was always Windows 7 Home Premium to Professional or to Ultimate. They didn't cover any other editions.

    Kinda makes me worry...

    That's an ultimate only feature?

    Holy shit fuck windows. Linux/OSX has had that as a standard feature for like a decade...

    Seriously as a linguist that pisses me off >.>

    It's the same with Vista.
    Any version of Vista or 7 can support, display and write in other langauges (as we are familiar with it in XP), it's just that you cant change the Start menu and windows prompts to other languages w/o Ultimate.

    So really, unless you want to change the system langauge, theres no need, as you can still type in other languages freely.

    Just mentioning this to clear any confusion.

    The MUI is really a lolable feature, it wasnt available for XP out of the box, it had to be downloaded, but it was free. Vista has a hack for it, and im sure 7 will have a hack for it soon, if it doesnt already. All it is is a pack with the langauges, and a registry change.

    And yes, you can upgrade.

    Look for the windows anytime upgrade section in the control panel.

    Ah, if its just something that is easily hack it I won't worry. But yeah, I do want the menus and everything to be in Japanese.
