Jake Delhomme's Latest Batch of INTs Not Actually Jake Delhomme's Fault
by Chris Mottram • Sep 29, 2009 10:27 AM EDT
If you didn’t really pay attention to last night’s mistake-ridden game between the Panthers and Cowboys, you may have seen that Delhomme threw two picks (one for six the other way) and assume this was Jake continuing the trend he started in the playoffs last season. But that wasn’t really the case.
Is first INT was, in large part, Muhsin Muhammad’s fault. It was man-on-man downfield and Muhammad quit on the pass, allowing a 5’10" cornerback to out jump him for the ball.
The second, and much more costly INT, was on Steve Smith. Just ask Steve Smith:
“I put Jake in a bad situation,” said Smith of Terence Newman’s interception that he returned 27 yards for a touchdown, putting the game out of reach and giving the Cowboys a 21-7 victory.
“It was a slant,” said Smith. "I should have crossed the guy’s face. Jake expected me to cross the guy’s face. But I didn’t.
“The bottom line is, I screwed Jake.”
I’m not saying that Delhomme played particularly well (or that he’s a good quarterback), but he was certainly not the reason Carolina lost its third game. Pretty hard for a team that relies on running the ball and defense to win when their backs run for 63 yards and the D gives up 449 net yards while forcing zero turnovers.
Week 4s games are gunna be epic.
Nah man Jake underthrew the first INT. I'm very impressed with Muhsin, but I don't see him as a reverse body position then shift back then get position then outjump, I don't care if his competition was 5'10". Tell me what his vertical leap is. Jake put the ball in the wrong place just like Favre put his game winner in the right place, and it just so happened that the person with the best chance to catch the ball did, both times.
2nd pick, all Smith, and I'm glad he manned up on that.
I watched about 30 seconds of last nights game, and that 30 seconds, I seen the first INT. I swear to god that Muhammed didn't even look to see if the ball was coming to him until it was damn near in the corners hands.
you should watch more football tyche
you cannot continue writing dissertations on ever game ever week if you only watch 30 seconds of games
oh que you silly bitch, you really dont wanna go down this road
according to miz the box was stacked and they were daring jake to throw
but according to you the entire team was selling out to stop smith
which is it? ill take either one to be honest
so what we have learned is that when smith is double teamed, and the free safety is running around in center field, the box is not stacked and the panthers are too stupid to run.
what we have also learned is that wade phillips, the head coach defensive coordinator for the dallas cowboys, in his INFINITE WISDOM, is the only coach smart enough to double team steve smith. it has absolutely nothing to do with terence newman, it is only because of the double team. steve smith has never ever been double teamed before
got it
oh yea for you slowbies, 7 in box = industry standard
lol
