Cryohelix is the best to use because of the +5Int and +skill on the ice staff, and +int from stormsurge.

Have to remember that all helix spells use the same base damage as Aero I which is 25. Even though you gain +INT on stormsurge with Hailstorm, you are better off in my opinion sticking wtih Ionohelix (Genbu) to ensure that the spell has less chance of a resist.

Forgot it's proven to be 100% on storms but you get the point. Iono on Genbu, only need to make sure it lands for about 80 dmg if you have 8 SCH's doing MV if you are trying to one shot it.

Ya but if you're planning on MV stacking anything, you should be /blm and using ES anyways (and Klimaform) so resists shouldn't be an issue. Plus the added elemental skill on the ice staff helps resists too.

With capped stormsurge merits and HQ staff, you get +12 Int and +5 skill with cyrohelix over ionohelix.

But this is something that should be tested anyways

I would say Obis as a must for Helixes since they affect the duration of the spell. I would imagine you want the max time since you're decreasing it by 75% each round right? I haven't had the time to read the mechanics of this trick, so what you're doing might somehow circumvent the need for increased (Read: Unresisted) durations.

Edit: Bikpik, they're referring to Genbu not AV. If every element but thunder is resisted by 1/2, you need to somehow do 2x or more damage doing Cryo than you would Iono.

B. I was basing that portion on what Suiram said, I don't do sky anymore (Only go sometimes for shits and giggles on BLU/THF to help random LSs), so you would have to ask someone more informed.

I recall that someone further concluded that it was essentially random despite Obi, Day, Weather, etc..

I was just saying that they are substantially resistant to all but one element, but also for that reason I've never really messed around with the other elements. I don't know if it's 100% resist on other elements, even with ES. VS said he got a resisted ES freeze 2, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's a forced resist (I remember when that big ES topic came up recently I used ES bliz on a ghost and got a 1/4 resist instead of the usual 1/2, not to restart that whole debate though lol).

Are these the tests you were talking about? If they are, I don't know if I'd take this as gospel since he only done a handful of casts on a handful of mobs. (If there are other tests around I'd like to see them.)
