He was banned for flailing Nidhogg.
I had a feeling this would be here when I checked for some stupid reason..and it was.
I know our group had no chance of going anywhere with this now, especially with you and Nours banned, but Kaeko's group was really close and it really wasn't your information to tell.
lol.... people still care enough about Nidhogg to get banned over flailing it these days? Wow.
If he had rajas that'd be 3 less enmity and maybe he wouldn't be banned.
Epic - the video rly seals the deal and shuts ppl up ha
To those saying to attack Av while using the trick in the op. NOT a good idea. what's better? having a shot at doting it to death or triggering benediction when you're trying to dot it to death? The point behind me saying to back off after a melee zerg for the dot to be put in place was to NOT accidentally trigger benediction.
The video in a sense doesn't "prove" anything, Om'yovras have 18,000 HP, the damage we did with full Modus Veritas landing would be projected near 200,000. I can assure you, they all landed though...because 9 went off, and you can't use Modus Veritas on a dead mob.
Like I said, if anyone has the people ready for this I could be of assistance I suppose.
Haha, nice title change.
Nours you got banned too? QQ Nuuuuuu
Thanks for sharing btw.
I still don't understand why you should be banned for curing people in the fighting party (and causing a flail). It's their own damned fault for not using /blockaid.
My take for anyone interested. Sorry I chose to post on LJ rather than directly to BG - I had a lot of the screenshots and stuff already embedded and hidden so it was just faster.
Kanican - Secret's Out
As I no longer really played FFXI except for the sole reason of completing this test, all I can say is I hope someone gives this method 1 more last ditch effort before the inevitable patch comes down. If you actually do have the resources, please contact me, Cair's group, or the others' which were involved.
I have embedded this video in my post, but I will repost it here for the lazy.
YouTube - True 9 Modus Veritas Helix
This is a video taken by Tuufless, a TK member around July of this year, succesfully landing 9 MVs on Hydra with a 63 base damage helix. We purposely chose a high HP, high MDB mob to make sure would could physically see the base x 512 damage modifier. Also, some of the other leaders wanted to see this work on a real HNM, so it was done as a proof of concept test.

As to the OP that gave this strategy up, I think do feel that it was a bit inconsiderate considering the amount of work involved by multiple groups and the networking involved. Had this been all your own work and effort, then of course it should be yours to do as you please; however, a lot of groups were involved in this. Even still, I realize that none of us owned this information, and if anything it was more a discourtesy as opposed to doing something inherently wrong.
To those that want to make the case that hiding this information just leads to another Salvage Dupe instance, I'm not really going to argue against that. This 'exploit' was a whole lot more obvious than disbanding alliances and shit dropping from the sky though. This was something you could actually predict solely from the game description. Playing the morality card is not my strong point though, so I'll just leave that issue at that.
EDIT:
read LJ Post if you want to see screenshot of 140+ damage Helix on AV. 9 MV can 1 shot it.
140 x 2^9 = 71,680 > 66,000
I'd like to clarify a point just in case anyone wants to try this and has the resources to do so before a (inevitable, I assume) patch.
Every a normally re-spawning mob has an individual tic time which corresponds the the second of the time it first appears on the server (and gains its unique ID) and will repeat every 10 seconds thereafter.
Pop mobs, such as Absolute Virtue, the main reason for even trying this to begin with, gain a new tic each time it is popped on the very moment it pops and every 10 seconds thereafter. Essentially, you need to /clock the moment it appears to determine the tic.
Furthermore, I would highly recommend doing this with 9 Scholars using Modus Veritas with additional support as opposed to 10 because the timing is just that much easier.
You do however, need far more substantial gear/merits with this method, despite it being "easier".
I'm guessing this doesn't work for some reason since it's not mentioned (or maybe this is in fact what you do but it won't necessarily overcome the other timing issue?), but couldn't you have the other SCHs bring up Modus Veritas on the menu and spam it on the mob, getting the "This ability can only be used..." message, so that all the MVs go off at the same time the moment that the helix lands? Similar I guess to claiming Behemoth or something before claim delay with Cannot attack x20 > So-and-so uses Provoke.
Edit: Or is there a cooldown after the message before you can use another spell or ability? My SCH is only 37, sorry for the dumb question if that's the case.
This doesn't work as well if the caster is also required to use Modus Veritas (I was the caster for my group and I was) because of the delay between one action and the next. Essentially, they exponentially decrease the time to about 3 seconds (Helix duration is generally 45 seconds on higher level mobs by observation, Kaeko determined that it isn't based on whether it is resisted at all) and then you use it after 2 more have passed cutting it down to far too short of a time to tic. You really are working with fractions of seconds most of the time.
If the caster is not using MV, this does work fine.
Oh, I think I misunderstood the timing issue. Is it that it's not a problem of timing it so everyone uses their MV before the next tic, but rather a problem of timing the tics so that the MV-shortened helix effect doesn't wear off before one actually occurs?
Sorry if this joke has been made, but it seems the solution is not MOAR dots but better dots!
Anyways, I'm also curious with the problem above. How well would you be able to synchronize the MVs with say Autoexec?
has anybody tried this on tougher NMs yet? Vrtra? Jormy? Bueller? Bueller?
The Hydra example wasn't good enough?
