Unable to open PoL Viewer(Cannot open registry key?)

First of all thanks for taking a time to read this.

So recently my OS just suddenly stopped working and refused to let me enter windows. After taking it to shop and had it fixed, the guy said most of my files outside of my corrupted OS are saved. After I got home and tried to open PoL, the following warning appears: "Cannot open registry key for install path of Playonline-compatible software. ID=1000." After a few clicks: "PlayOnline viewer installation cannot write to specified destination folder. Please check your access privileges." The guy said my old xp registry was a total mess so he installed a new copy of XP professional for me. What adjustments do I have to make to make PoL/FFXI running again?

its the same as if you tranfering the install to a different PC you need to creat a registry

personaly I was always to lazy to learn how to do it so heres the lazy way to do it(it requiers you have copies of the game on CD or .iso files of them)

first find your old playonline derectory since the guy did a clean OS install it should be in a folder called windows.old(or somthing to that effect) on your c drive or whatever your PC's main HD is

once you find the play online folder just keep the window open and begin installing the game like you normaly would once thats done go to program files folder and find the new playonline folder you just made go in that copy over everything from the old 1 to the new 1 then delete any files that say patch.bak or patch. anything

after thats done your ready to start pol for the first time put all your info in like normal get to the play button and when it loads up it will do a file check as if its going to update but once its done with the file check you can play

all that usaly takes me anywhere from 15-30mins and in the end it lets you skip the 5-10hr updating and it will make the registry for you

but theres a right way to do it and iam sure someones ganna call me a moron then point out that you should use the search button but then agen my way works just fine too(all be it takes a bit longer i guess)
