Laptop as an external monitor for Dualview

I have a desktop computer and monitor. I'd like to use my laptop as the second monitor for Dualview. Is that at all possible and what cables would I need?

From my research so far, it's easy to just hook up a laptop to another monitor and have the laptop as the main screen, input device for Dualview. However, I can't seem to find anything coherent that would allow my destop monitor to be the primary monitor and then have my laptop as the secondary monitor. This way I run all my programs on my destop while the laptop plays the part of the second monitor where I can drag windows for view.

It seems I might need a docking station for my laptop to allow this, but that's something I want to avoid at all costs if possible.

From what I've learn, I just need a certain cable that that leaves my desktop and connects to the laptop to allow dualview. With that connection, I can drag window from my destop monitor to my laptop monitor. I assume I'll need a DVI port and cable on my desktop (which I do have). Now the missing is link is getting the DVI cable into the laptop. Seems I would need a DVI cable converter to the VGA port on my laptop. This is where I am stuck if my assumption is correct.

    Pertinent information:

The desktop runs on XP using a Geforce 9800 GTX and is specified to support multi-monitor (However, under Display Settings, I don't see the option to choose the monitor as the primary display like I can do with the laptop). The laptop runs on Vista using a Radeon HD 3200 card and supports Dualview.

Your laptop would need a video INPUT, which few to none have. Any VGA or DVI ports on the laptop (or subsequent docking station) are OUTPUT designed to allow the laptop's video to be sent to another screen (either for dualview or standalone).

USB capture cards or other input stream devices should facilitate this I'd think though.

Bit of a lame way to do it though. The other way I could think is to use a remote desktop program on the laptop and somehow fake a second screen on the desktop, but again, very inelegant solution to a problem without any real answer.

You might as well use the laptop fully since it'll have to be on and running anyways
