I think some of the suburbs would be hosting different activities for the Olympics if it was in Chicago. So you'd have to take the Metra out there or a bus to go see some of them. I can't tell you what ones, but it was a planning design at the time (like a few months ago).

I am torn on this really. One side says it'd be awesome to have them here because how often do you get to go watch the Olympics. On the other end, everything already mentioned is a huge negative. This city sucks to navigate when any event is going, regardless of where it's at, Cubs, Sox, Bears, Blackhawks...any route to the city and around each venue is clogged. Concerts as well screws up traffic depending on the band, but that's mostly isolated to the exact area of the venue.

The highways are always under construction and though hopefully they'd be done by 2016, I'm sure someone will find a reason to have construction again... People already drive like assholes, it's pretty much the only way to actually get around downtown Chicago, can't wait to see a bunch of people from out of town get around that mess.

Every summer it seems the CTA threatens to go on strike or raise prices to make up for it's terrible profits, so at least they would in theory see a huge jump in revenue for the games, as I would imagine city officials would urge people to not drive and add to the traffic. Think 90/94 and 290 is bad now, it'd be even worse with Olympic traffic, and if they had to move some of the games out to Bridgeview I think it was, for use of Toyota Park that would make southbound I-55 even worse than it already is.

Even with all those driving nightmares, Chicago still is the greatest city out there and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else but Vancouver or Tokyo, you can have the games after further consideration lol.

You wouldn't have to worry about over crowding then now would you?

Hope they win the bid, will be nice and close <3

Couple months ago I helped support it with a fencing demo that was put on near the capitol building in D.C.. Of course, then Morehouse goes and outdoes himself by fencing with Obama, but nonetheless was still fun :D

Wonder what Shitcago you're talking about but doesn't sound like mine... I didn't get the memo that we were the greatest city...last time I checked this city blows with it's: Traffic, high tax, unemployment, horrible winters high rents, and all the fun filled things you mentioned as well, also the fact that 80% of the city is either in the "What a fucking douche bag" or "That guy is a prick" categories doesn't help. Everyone is so damn aggressive here.

I don't know what sort of crack you're on but this city really sucks and I live near Wrigley which the only good thing about having a game there is that it attracts a lot of very appealing women. The only decent place to live is the north side because everything else sucks

Oh and if the do decide to make that pain in the ass Olympic bs here I believe they'll be raising tax more on us. This city is now for rich people to live in thanks to Mr. Mayor who likes to go behind our backs and sign contracts with outside parties to change the Parking Meters for what was it 50 years or something? Everything costs an arm and a nut here.

I'm sure the state/fed would help a little but Olympics are in general a huge money sink that statistically does not produce any long term economic boost all while taking decades to pay off the debt accrued building everything.

So yeah this will result in a huge fuck you tax to everybody that actually lives in Chicago.

I don't know, I mean I've been to Chicago and it was nice and all but I'd actually rather the Olympics be in Tokyo. I know about the customs, people and problems in America already since I live here, so I'd rather the Olympics be somewhere else so I have a chance to learn about their culture too. I know there doesn't have to be an Olympic event for me to want to learn about something, but it makes me more inclined to.

I really enjoyed the Beijing Olympics not only because of the events but also because of how it brought a lot of cultures together that I didn't really know anything about. That's what the Olympics are really for though, to compete and meet new people.

Chi town is hard enough to travel, despite the new highway they put up. Sure we'd have seven more years to make it more accessible, but that money could be put to better use. I wouldn't be to angry since I could just drive right over there and enjoy the festivals. But I'd never do so, because of my past heartbreaks of not competing.

Hosting the Olympics is highly profitable for a few, and very costly for the majority. Nothing is more American.
