I live in the city and it's going to be awesome, all of your tax dollars will be going to improve my city if we get this, mwahaha
Improve what? They sure as hell aren't thinking about the south side lol. If you live in the city get your head out of your ass and stop thinking about shiny things and who this will affect, the city as a whole. They are going to spend thousands if not millions on building some retarded stadium so they can use it for a few weeks, then tear it down a couple months later (awesome way of spending cash bro). If they do raise the taxes they wont be going down either. The situation is already bad enough without some asshole finding more ways to fuck people out of their money.

Neither of them are anything I would consider attractive for the Summer games.

Vancouver has the water, Seattle has the water, Rio has the water, Beijing had some funky buildings, the water, and a weather machine, Greece had the water, hot Greeks, and nice weather, Australia had the water, and nice weather.

Chicago has um, some flat land and a big lake, and shitty weather?
I completely agree with you, the prettiest thing this city has is the skyline at night, which you stare at it once and go "Oh I get it. I'm over it".

Are you serious? The major events are scheduled to take place on the South Side (though why anyone would live there is insane, imo). Enjoy infrastructure improvements and increased police patrols to drive the gang bangers out. Also enjoy your increased land values following a shit ton of federal, state, and local spending over the next 7 years there. The South Side turning into a NICE area that will actually experience some rapid gentrification? Heaven forbid!

This is probably the best opportunity the South Side has in getting a ton of funds to be spent on it. Redevelopment of the shitty Michael Reese Complex, railroad improvements, possibly receiving your own CTA line (Hear of the Gold Line?), among plenty of other items. The biggest complaint I hear is that the poor will be forced out (boo hoo? they'll probably move into MY neighborhood, Rogers Park, so who cares) because of higher rent. So what? You want a safer neighborhood? You need people with more income there, therefore you need to get rid of the poor. Hell, even some developers stated they want to do Mixed Income housing (which is a total crock imo) in areas that will be developed.

If the city doesn't get the games, we'll still be facing the same financial issues, educational troubles, and crime problems. Except this time WITHOUT increased funding we will undoubtedly get from the games.

Also: Rio plans to house athletes on boats because they don't have enough room. WTF.

If this is true, this might not be the best for athletes who get nauseous on boats.

We all saw that episode of the Simpsons, we know how Brazil really is. I'd prefer to not have my events overrun with monkeys, thank you very much.

The rail lines, though, are really good, provided you don't expect them to actually come at the exact time listed on the schedule. Just show up assuming you'll have to wait 1~5min at rush hour, up to 20min if you're going out somewhere in the evening, or 30~40min if it's like 3am, and just be pleasantly surprised if it comes earlier. I personally prefer that to a Metra-style schedule, where everything runs exactly at the same time every day and if you miss your train you're screwed (people at work who are like "I have to leave within 3 minutes or I'll miss my train and have to wait an hour and a half to go home." lol)
I think part of the problem is the proximity of planned sites to some seriously bad areas. I don't know if you've ever visited 51st and cottage grove after sun down, but it's seriously just flat out dangerous. At any rate, we'll find out in a couple hours...

Oh, that was more about some of the stuff said by people describing how they feel about living in the city generally, and not about the Olympics specifically.

Thought we'd last a little longer than that but can't say that I'm too upset over not getting them.
