    Oh god yes. I can't wait for this game. Going to have to try that plasma cutter only hard mode run before jumping into this game. Gonna suck though because the assault rifle's alternate fire was one of my favorites. ><;

Playing through with only the plasma cutter was easy. Just pump all your money and all your nodes into upgrading it as fast as possible and the game is a cake walk on hard. I haven't tried insane yet.

Right now I am just playing through a second time to finish upgrading all the weapons.

Oh and lol at the post above getting spoilered and then like 3 people quoting it and not spoilering the quote.

I noticed that, but i can't update their posts sadly.

Also, I played through with only the Plasma cutter mostly by accident. just didn't feel like getting a new gone, was too busy upgrading. didn't even know it was an achievement

I still need to finish my Insane run on Dead Space for Platinum trophy on PS3.

Unfortunately I'm also a cheapass and am going to exploit a little infinite-cash trick just so I can stock up on nodes from the get go.

Did the One Gun trophy on first playthrough, and I regret it as it takes a lot of the fun out of the game due to lack of kill variety.

I didn't personally find the game scary at all until my Insane playthrough. Something about knowing I'll be dead in two hits gets to me a lot more than when I felt invincible playing on normal. (not even the shock horror moments did anything for me on that run...)

insane is nasty especially the zombies that are on crack they move extremely fast and they take a lot of ammo to die.

Ah. Turns out I need to beat it on Impossible for the "Epic Tier 3 Engineer" achievment. That might be a bit rough with just the Plasma Cutter. IIRC I did start an impossible file before I stopped playing and got the Military Suit glitch to work. I saw that there is a "Tank Suit" available to download that has double the defense of it. It's like 4 bucks though for the 60% damage reduction. >.>

If you buy any of the armor/ammo packs do you get the upgraded suit right away? Or do you get it later in the game? I am just curious because I want to play through on insane but it would be nice to start with a better suit and I can never get the glitch to work to start with the military suit.

You get it as soon as you come across the first item shop in the game. They all cost 0 credits since you already paid for them. I belive the weapons are added right to your inventory or safe. Not sure on that one since I only got the Red Scorpion Suit on my first play through with some leftover points I had.

Which of the purchased suits are the best in terms of defense and total stasis/health? Are they all better than the military suit (level 6)?

Military Only after first playthrough. The DLC suits are just a waste.

Military Suit trumps all of the suits except for the "Tank Suit" I mentioned earlier. Military is 30% damage reduction and Tank is 60%. All the others are Level 5.5 suits except for the Elite suit which is Level 4-4.5 in defense with Level 5 inventory.

All the suits have the same Health/Stasis cap iirc.

just wanted to throw this out there, but Wii owners who are interested in the Dead Space storyline should really give Dead Space: Extraction a rental. I was wary at first at it being a light gun game, but it's surprisingly good.

9 weapons (all the weapons from the original Dead Space, and some extras), each of which can be upgraded 4 times, as well as telekinesis (also used to grab powerups) and stasis. There aren't many branching paths but there are a few diversions.

Oh and the story is great too, it's maybe just a little scarier than the original (which wasn't scary at all, really) but they did a great job with the voice work and atmosphere.

Anyway, it's a short game so you could get away with a rental, but the game really did a good job of getting me interested in the whole Dead Space universe again.

eh, I got kinda tired of the dead-enemy-comes-to-life thing by the end, overall it was more surprising than scary, but maybe I'm just spoiled by the first 3 silent hills

In case anyone cares the 3 extra weapons in Dead Space: Extraction are... (oh and alternate fire mode is enabled by turning the remote to the side)

    1) Rivet Gun - Your default weapon, unlimited ammo, starts with a 3 round clip (upgrades to 7). Alternate fire lets you charge up and fire a superheated rivet (which also is used to bolt barricades together in a few instances)

    2) P-Sec Pistol - Basically a pistol version of the pulse rifle, clip is something like 12-15 shots. Alt. fire shoots 3 bullets at once.

    3) Arc Welder - Fires a stream of electricity at an enemy. I forget what alt. fire does... this weapon is alright for non-bosses but it's kinda sucky compared to Line Gun for crowd control or Force Gun/Flamethrower for close range.

You also get a pickaxe for close combat/clearing debris.

The game is chock full of collectable text and audio logs (the latter of which play over the wiimote speaker) and completing the game unlocks Expert/Impossible difficulty, challnge mode, and the 6 animated comics they have on xbox live/PSN.

I haven't played enough Wii light gun games to say it's the best one on the system, but I will say that they put a lot of money and effort into the game and it shows. It feels a lot more like a full-fledged prequel that happens to be a different genre, than an afterthought/lesser version that was just done to cash in on another console.

If you're not interested in actually playing it, but want to see the "cutscenes", then you can use this guy's playlist:

    YouTube - SqueeksoAo's Channel

There are 34 parts, here's the first one (spoilers, evidently):

edit: it's pretty good they mixed the rail shooter aspect well with a movie sort of feel
