So I think I'm about to try Hardcore. What's the consensus on good save spots? I was planning on:

1: Very end of chapter 7, right after you align the solar array and right before you enter the big room where you get ambushed waiting for Ellie to open the door.
This was my first trouble spot on my Zealot run through. But I'm not sure if the Tripod Elevator will give me any trouble. I was real easy on zealot, but I had max dmg Seeker and could take them out in 1 hit.

2:Right before the drill ride. Drill ride and the section right after it gave me quite a bit of trouble.

3rd save: I'm not sure of right now. It only takes like 1-2 hours to get from the drill ride to the end, so if I do die it wouldn't be a big loss. Maybe I'll save right before the gauntlet of almost never ending enemy attacks, in that last clear room with the weapon upgrader/store and save. Or I could find another save somewhere else earlier in the game.

that's more or less where I did it. I'd personally save before the elevator in ch 7, since even with a good weapon you're going to get hit a few times and after a few hardcore attempts the last thing you want is to die and repeat the first half of the game again.

I saved before the drill ride in 11 as well, actually just before you take the big elevator (where enemies drop down and kill you) to the drill ride you can run back to that store/save just before the big room with the ramp where you replace the power module.

As for your last save I'd do it in chapter 13 before you start the eye thingy/regenerator or in chapter 14 where the last store is(and nicole tells you that this is it), depending on how confident you are that you won't get killed hacking that first door after you meet the regenerator. The last boss is cake with line gun/contact beam so you probably don't need to go out of your way to save before it

Just played this demo and I jumped like a little girl like 4 times. Is it worth picking up Dead Space 1 first or can you jump straight into Dead Space 2? I think I can get the first one for like $10.

Yeah, it's been said many times in this thread, but you can get DS1 for under $20 easily and you're doing yourself a huge injustice by not playing it.

The only real consensus is before the tripod elevator in Chapter 7 I think that's possibly the single most likely spot to die in the entire game, everything else is just spots where you personally think you may have a hard time. A lot of people pick before the ch11 drill ride, I did the ch10 elevator ride instead.

Who is the "He" that he keeps referring to?
I know it's the Marker talking to him like it did to Clarke through Nicole, but was it ever said anywhere, even through the texts what relation the "He" had with him? In the movie and in the game as far as I know the only family/friends he had was his daughter, wife, and that girl he was cheating on his wife with.
He also mentions a "She", but I assume that's one of the 3 listed above.

Are you sure it was a daughter? I thought Daina tells you that Stross killed his wife and son so I assumed the "He" that he says is his son, much like Isaac keeps seeing Nicole. I was under the impression that "She" referred to his wife. I haven't seen the 2nd movie yet though so I dunno

edit: oh nvm I really need to watch the movie, I just looked at the Dead Space wiki. Maybe it's a member of his team that gets killed by necros?

'He' is his son(he had a baby boy, not a daughter), and 'She' is his wife, Atreides was correct there. Much like how Isaac is being visited with the visions of Nicole from the Marker, Stross is dealing with both seeing the son and the wife. Per Aftermath, him and his wife were already on rocky terms since she did not like being on the ship and could tell he was having an affair with his partner, and due to Marker hallucinations he believes his wife and son are necromorphs and kills them. For awhile he is under the belief that he killed necromorphs that had come for his family and then had sealed his family safely inside their room, but they had in fact never been attacked by anyone but him.

Same as with Isaac, he's racked with guilt which is why he sees the visions, and eventually just goes off the deep edge when he's unable to stand up to the visions of his wife the way Isaac does to Nicole, that's when he decides to take a Craftsman to Ellie's face.

yeah, I knew all that, I just could have sworn unitoligist bitch near the beginning of the game said he had a wife and daughter. And I don't remember what gender they said it was in the movie. I probably just remembered wrong.
Now I'm trying to imagine if a tiny little baby haunting Ross and talking to him would make it scarier or funnier

Based on the random crazy shit he blurts out during video links, it would appear that Stross sees his son as if the kid aged normally since the shit on the O'Bannon, he says a bunch of 'look how much you've grown' and talking to him the way you would a kid older than an infant, like trying to explain that he's not a murderer.

Damn, didn't realize the RIG level in Ignition was persistant. These next three playthroughs going to be a fucking joke.


As for DS2, is it me or does it appear shorter than DS1? I'm only at chapter 7 but I'm barely 3 hours into the game. At least there's a proper NG+ though, will definitely be doing multiple runs.
