if i were the rest of the league i'd hate it if the lakers picked up bell. a lot of people last year were guaranteeing the lakers would dominate their way to the championship with artest, and while they won, it wasn't anything close to domination. i mean anyone with half a brain could see that artest either killed them or won games for them. it was 50/50 with no in between and that's too dangerous in an elimination series.

bell is a good defender like ron, is a superior 3 point shooter, and won't do stupid shit like dribbling the ball like a chicken with his head cut off in crucial possessions. artest is obviously a lot more talented but his offensive IQ is atrocious and his defense, while still strong, isn't nearly as good as it used to be.

huh? i think he's pretty solid, not spectacular though of course. a lot of nba teams/people consider steve blake to be the best backup PG in the league (well maybe not after darren collison's season) and he's ok as a starter on teams that already have some star power.

i watched about half his games after he was traded to the clippers and they looked soooo much smoother when he was on the court after baron subbed out. not that they were winning all kinds of games with him on the court, lol, but that can't be blamed on him.

well, you've seen more of him than i have but for real he made the clippers a lot more competitive when he was on the floor as opposed to davis. now whether this means baron is just an awful fit for the clippers or whether steve blake was a good fit in that interim system, it's uncertain.

for the clips, blake was just a lot more willing to defer and give up the ball early in the clock which got the team to buy in and pass the ball to each other a lot more. baron's a ball-dominating PG so you get a lot of people just standing around doing nothing when he's in hero mode (which is like 85% of the time). sometimes players just fare a lot better in different systems once they're moved. i'd say this was kind of the case of addition by subtraction.



also that game where he missed the 4 FT's: i remember it really well. what's funny is that he almost did it again after the trade, and when the opposing team took a timeout to try and ice him, you could see the entire clipper team cracking up and giving him shit cause they remembered what happened last year. it was serious LOL

Speculating about anything at this point is relatively pointless, seeing as the league is getting a facelift once the free agency floodgates open. the lakers will remain beastly, but the term is relative, and the field will be very different than it is right now. I think there will be at least one team markedly better than the Cs team that took them to 7 this year, question is can the Lakers improve enough to still be the clear favorites? Bell is a shell of his former self and will provide good D, the occasional game of 15 points with a few 3s, but hes not going to take them to another level. If they lose brown and get bell, thats a step backwards: shannon brown is going to be nice. Also, they better sign Tmac for pennies if it happens (dont think it will), amazes me how people are so infatuated with the Tmac of many years back while ignoring his garbage nosedive into mediocrity. He would be the 7th man at best, assuming his legs dont fall off.

the thing about this year is that almost everyone has some kind of space, yet almost everyone is also losing money and needs to worry about the new CBA, so even though someone will no doubt get overpaid, i dont' see it as a trend

looks like chicago is gonna become an even bigger player in FA. they're going to trade hinrich which will allow them to sign two max contracts.

i know wade has been saying he wants someone to come to miami with him but that roster would be utterly barren. if chicago completes the trade (and it's gonna happen almost for sure) they can plug in two max contracts to go with rose/noah/deng and taj gibson who is a nice, young player. i wouldn't be surprised to see lebron/wade move out to chicago.

Bulls also wanna trade Deng apparently but I dunno what team is gonna want him for 4 years. Either way it looks like they are gonna have a ton of cap space available even without the Deng trade to make a run at the big names.
