Every superstar gets calls. Kobe used to live at the free throw line back in the days when he used to be a true slasher.

Lebron is just a hard player to referee because he gains so much momentum on his way to the hoop that it's impossible to really impede his progress without doing something against the rules. That dude is like a locomotive once he get's going, and 99% of the league can't really stop him from getting inside the lane unless they physically foul him in some way or the other.

Shaq went through the same thing when he was in LA. Teams would literally throw bodies at him to try to stop him from getting in the lane. It's just what happens when you're a freak of nature.

Kobe used to jump into his defender and get the call, and I thought that was real cheap. League has stopped calling those though, and I don't really see Kobe doing it much any more. Other guys imitate and don't get that call either.

It's true that it's hard to stop Lebron, but it's possible to deter his direction away from a straight line to the basket. Martin and Nene has been doing that all night, and I thought it was really well done, yet every single time Lebron gets to the line I almost turned the game off.

And that would be fine, except Billups did the exact same thing two or three times, got more contact, and no call. Being a long time Laker/Kobe "dickrider", I am certainly no fan of Billups, but that was not right. I'm pretty psyched Denver pulled out with a win tonight.

I don't really have anything to whine about in the NBA though, I just don't really care. I'll start watching in the playoffs as long as it's interesting.

I take that back, I QQ when the spurs win, mostly because I dickride steve nash and I'm bitter over the old one-sided rivalry.

The Wizards are done for years. Arenas isn't going anywhere because no one will touch that contract. And the team isn't going to lure one of the top free agents because who wants to join this shit situation? Grunfeld is already hedging his bets by saying the team may sit on the cap space next year and angle for the 2011 free agents (and impending lockout). Next year is another lottery team, Gilbert and a bunch of bums and kids. I do not plan to renew my season tickets.

I will say part of me likes the strategy of not paying anyone this summer, though. No point in paying big cash for damaged goods like Amare'. We really don't need two guys with bad knees on max contracts. And if the threat of lockout leads to a new CBA with a hard cap and smaller contracts, cap space will be that much more valuable.

They do need to fix something- it's fucked up that the biggest action at the trade deadline usually involves salary dumps. Looks bad for the league, and pisses off fans.

I think the new CBA in 2011 will try to fix this. They're shooting for shorter contracts in addition to a lower, hard cap. Just too much bad money out there in the NBA right now. Guaranteed deals don't help, either, but of course I understand they're in the best interest of the players.

The root of the problem is usually dumb owners/GMs who need to be protected from themselves. Reminds me of how the rule was passed limiting the trading of your draft picks because so many dumb GMs would trade them away every year.

salary cap is going down while player salarys goes up yearly on most contracts

sometimes its just if a team doesnt use the money this year, they wont have the same amount to spend the next year. if they arent able to sign the FAs they want, they end up just signing whoever hoping that the player will at least become an asset on the court or in a future trade

good example of this is portland and andre miller last summer
