Blazers lose Brandon Roy to a knee injury, so naturally they end up beating the Lakers in LA for the first time in six tries.

Here's hoping Roy isn't out for any length of time. They need him back tomorrow for Oklahoma City.

I think at this point you could tell me that any one of the eight playoff teams was going to win the west, and I wouldn't be shocked. I imagine the Lakers will get things back on track for the playoffs, but it really could be just about anyone.

Kobe has been in a funk, if he isn't right the Lakers won't get very far

Yeah, if Roy's out, the Blazers are out. They lucked out with OKC losing tonight to the warriors, 6th seed looking very possible...

It seems like the Lakers did this last year though, I think they're still gonna win the west in the playoffs but I definitely think that there is more competition this year.

From the season record so far it does look like it'll be fierce competition out west, but remember 07-08 season? All the west teams got 50+ wins coming into the playoffs too... and it was rather boring. =\

That's a good point actually. Here's to hoping there are some series like the Bulls/Celtics last year though!

Nice writeup of the Western Conference playoff positioning race:

    http://www.oregonlive.com/nba/index....-and-tuck.html

It's written from a Blazer beat writer perspective, but I believe it covers all seven teams whose status is still up in the air.

Well, it's obviously Blazer-centric, but it describes what each team needs to do to reach/fall to a certain playoff position. I'm sure each team has its own paper doing something similar.

Big game tonight for the Thunder and Blazers. I'll be flipping to it during the Spurs game.

Big game to see who can play a worse game and lose intentionally? I don't know why you wouldn't wanna be matched up with the Lakers right now the way they are playing.

edit: and obviously that's what Pop wants to do, look at them losing to the Wolves with style!

While from an objective standpoint that'd make sense, I don't think the league would let the lakers be a first round knockout (it'd be bad for media too - not saying I wouldn't want them to lose if it was versus the blazers, but yeah.)

What are you saying? The NBA and Refs would let them win in the first round? They didnt let the Mavs win.

Yay no Lakers first round! Marcus Camby apparently doesn't age... 30 pts 13 rebounds @ 36 years old lol.

First prediction for the west is Lakers in 6 over OKC.

Man that off the glass dunk from Kidd to Marion was vicious.

Spurs win ties. The Zombie Sonics are the guaranteed 8th seed at this point, meeting the Lakers.

    West:
    LA over OKC in 5
Utah over Denver in 7 (If Boozer plays)
Phoenix over Portland in 7 either way, Portland without Roy is still tough
Dallas over San Antonio in 6 - Spurs have no answer for Dirk
