Probably because he's really only guarded unathletic people.

Hey man
Steve Nash is pretty unathletic.
Look. Steve Nash is not particularly athletic but he does have outstanding basketball skills and basketball IQ to compensate. Think John Stockton. Lebron James is extremely athletic. But he could be just as good a running back as he is a small forward. He doesn't have any special BASKETBALL talent. I don't especially care for either Nash or Lebron but I can acknowledge and appreciate the qualities and strengths each of them bring to the game.
That was a pretty dumb comment... and you will continue to be flamed (rightly so) because instead of realizing it was a stupid comment (come on, You know it was) you continue to defend it...
yeah what a dumb comment
“Steve Nash is the most unathletic player in the league.” -Bill Walton
“He is a lot like Stockton. What they lack in athletic ability, they make up in other things.”
—Former NBA head coach Flip Saunders
“Steve isn’t as athletically gifted as most guys he faces. It’s by necessity he has that mental edge.”
—Nelson
"A vertically challenged and unathletic white-guy that dominates in a big, tall, athletically-dominated league."
-Scouting report site
In before morons claiming they know more about what athletic ability is than hall of fame players and coaches.
I'm surprised Bill Walton can still function.
Well, Bill Walton is the goto guy on defining athleticism.
Really though, I think your definition of athleticism is ignorant. He's fast, he runs one's of the most athletically intense offenses in the league, and he could have went pro in multiple sports.
But, he's unathletic.
Whitey is slow.
Your in a NBA thread, deciding to alter the definition of basketball athleticism to fit your own agenda and I'm ignorant lol ok.
Not to mention screw the qualifications of the people below
they're all so damn ignorant.“Steve Nash is the most unathletic player in the league.” -Bill Walton

What is most amusing is the people who are so offended by Nash being called unathletic are people who only tune in to a few games a season, let alone watch Phoenix Suns games.
lol the Canadian blur.
Just lol
You just had to qualify "athleticism" by saying "basketball athleticism". Who's altering the definition? Is there a difference between athleticism and basketball athleticism?
But yeah, because I don't watch 70 games a year, I'm not qualified to see what is and isn't athletic. I only watch about 23 or 24 NFL games a year, so I can't make a definitive statement regarding NFL games either?
Athletic in basketball terms refers mainly to leaping ability and quickness. I wouldn't say Steve Nash is unathletic, just not especially athletic.
Tyche, you gotta watch every game of the year to know everything about the NBA.
Shit like Bynum plays 4 games a year, Steve Nash runs a 5.90 forty, and commentators can't pronounce Antawn.
Compare Rodrigue Beaubois(or Derrick Rose) and Steve Nash. Beaubois is extremely athletic - he can dunk pretty easily and is super quick. Steve Nash relies on his great ball-handling and ability to read defenses to get to the hoop.
Athleticism is defined by a 40 inch vertical.
