Rogue NBA referee Tim Donaghy's book tabled by Random House imprint Triumph Books

Donaghy is currently in a federal detention center near Tampa, a week away from his release. About 10 months ago, he shopped the book to Triumph Books, an imprint of Random House, according to a source close to Donaghy. Triumph, the source says, "put forth a huge effort to verify every statement in that book." (Triumph's editorial director, Tom Bast, declined to comment.) Two weeks ago, Blowing the Whistle was ready for printing; 60 Minutes had plans to interview Donaghy in conjunction with the book's publication. Then the NBA came calling. "They came after Random House and threatened a lawsuit," the source says, "and Random House just rolled and decided to not go with it. It's really that simple." To his knowledge, no one at the NBA had actually read the book.


"Which is why," he goes on, "Triumph was so intrigued as to why the parent company decided to not go with it. Because there was no logical reasoning other than an open threat. It just doesn't make sense. If they had come down and said, 'There are some specific things that are flat-out lies or they're wrong and we think there are fabrications or something,' then there'd be some basis to say, 'OK, we need to back up and double-check this.' But this was just an open comment. And so we don't know what the specific basis of that potential suit might've been."

That's what really intrigues me. Just a general "don't put this out, or we will sue" yet no specific examples it seems of where the lies were.

I can't say I'd blame LeBron for not going to the Knicks, they're in complete disarray. But no chance he stays in Cleveland unless they make the finals. I appreciate that Ohio is part of his identity (despite the fact that the cuntbag roots for the Cowboys and the Yankees), but Cleveland is fucking wack, dude. Why the hell would anyone wanna be rich and famous there?

Could end up with Jersey, spending some of that Russian billionaire money. He's gonna go to a big market for sure though, or some place people actually want to live like Miami or Phoenix.

Knicks have a better future without LeBron James than the Cavs have without LeBron James. The Knicks have some sort of team they are trying to put together. I'm not saying he should go there but playing with the likes of David Lee is better than playing with anyone in Cleveland atm. People seem to forget the other "New York" team. The Nets will make a run at LeBron.

The Nets will have the money backing them when Russia takes over. They have a young team that will only get better over time. I like the Nets chances over the Knicks or the Cavs. There aren't many teams who can seriously go after him and I doubt he'd wanna be a Clipper cause you'd have people with the 'Who's the real King of LA" with him and Kobe.

Not a clipps fan at all. I like the way they've tried to build lately tho, and I honestly have to say on paper* Lebron at the 3 for them looks like a good fit.

I do live in LA tho, and don't like rooting for the Lakers. Although they're obviously a good team.
