    Looking for a TV

Looking for a TV basically. The one I have had finally crapped out. I don't really know alot about TV's, I know more than the average guy though, all I have is basically a budget as far as what I want. I have around 900ish to spend, preferably less. Looking for a 40'+ TV. Please help

Depending on power consumption, would pretty much be a decision regarding plasma vs. lcd. Some new tvs are LED lit, but are extremely expensive. I've seen some decent toshibas around your price range which is not a bad brand.

It's also 240hz which is nice. Cnet says it has a few lackluster things, however without really paying a premium, you never really "get it all". As far as contrast goes however, plasma seems to beat LCD hands down.

The bottom line: Although subpar black levels keep it from besting the LCD champs, the Toshiba ZV650U series is still one of the better values among TVs with a 240Hz effect.
Theres this plasma 42" which is a pretty high rated TV as far as I've seen.

I'm getting a 42 inch plasma from a local repair shop for $300. They guy who brought it in didn't want to pay the price to repair it, so he gave it to the shop owner and he's selling it for the repair costs.

They also have 57 inch rear projection for $500. I'd call around to a few local electronics repair shops and see if they have anything like that.

Yeah this is a pretty good idea as long as the repair shop is legit. Much better to get a repaired TV than a used tv with some random problem that will turn up in a year or so. Especially w/ rear projection tvs.... bulbs gotta be replaced every 4~ years or so? somewhere around there.

My friend does work for the guy, so I might even get a bigger discount, so it's working out really well for me.

Don't really have any of those shops near me. I live in a town that hold's the Guinness book of world record for most fast food / shopping places in a something something radius. We don't have any of those near me .

Panasonic S1 Series, can get a 42inch for around $800 shipped. Best bang for the buck by far, LCD isn't even in the same league at that price range.
