Anyone know of a good torrent site that requires membership? And might be able to send out an invite? My HD melted the other day and I lost all of my music and everything. And since Demonoid is down and will be down for awhile still most likely, and I don't like using piratebay or torrentz was hoping for suggestions.

I download a lot of non mainstream music. I lost 65gigs of it. Leaves Eyes, Era Discography, ASP, Flesh Field, yadda yadda. That plus the usual programs like Photoshop and such.

Just looking for a site with a good upload/download speed. I had a 2.6 ratio on Demonoid so my stuff tended to download pretty fast.

Just remember that some sites frown on invite trading/selling/whatever and will ban you if they find out...

Your ratio has nothing to do with your up/down speed. People connected to a tracker with pieces you're missing has the biggest impact on your down speed.

Meh, was trying to find some dub Viewtiful Joe (anime) and all I could find was on youtube. It only went to about 20 then there was only "dub" for a while before the subs continued. Friend told me to search on demonoid which happened to go down the day I was looking >> Nowhere else I can find these subs outside of bits and pieces on youtube.

My Demonoid sharing ratio glitched out and set itself permanently to 3, which was really sweet.

I'm likely getting a new computer soon and putting this one out to pasture (shhh... don't tell it) so I'll probably need another site to grab the few pieces of software I use off of again. Actually, come to think of it, I don't use a single illegally downloaded program right now. iTunes for music, Firefox/Safari for internet, Adium for IMing, Gmail for mail, Skim for PDFs, VLC for videos, Microsoft Word/Excel/Powerpoint 2004 edition - came with computer, MATLAB2007b - came from University, ClamXav for viruses, Quicksilver instead of lolSpotlight, and a demo version of Fetch for FTPing.

I was under the impression if your ratio slipped too low it limited your connection to the torrent and also gave you a lockout of 24hrs before your torrent would even begin to download.

How do you set up for a good upload speed or whatever? I was on revolution but got banned cause my ratio was too low and i had stuff uploading. It's a pain in the ass and I could use some pointers. I use uTorrent if it matters.

Different sites have different rules, but no, your ratio doesn't actually affect your connection speed. Usually what happens is you have a specific time frame where you can correct your ratio before you're banned.

I read on demonoid's rules page that it doesn't matter how low your ratio gets. It's just for statistical purposes.

I dont know if it says that on their rules. Last time I checked it does say theyll ban you if your ratio sucks, however it is false, you wont be banned for it. It's just a threat to keep ratios up.

I think they only ban you from downloading if your ratio falls below 0, giving you a chance to upload until it's good again. They might ban if you don't upload shit though.

Mine sat at .26 for ages and no warnings or threats.

Not in this context. You can't download 1 GB of data for every -1 GB of data you send out...doesn't work.

Bleh, you're right. I suppose it's possible if you use some weird math to get the ratio but a straight up/down check should never breach 0.
