Oh don't worry, that's normal, lol... just remember that you know more shit than your students do, sound convincing, and then use the age old tactic of getting them to answer their own questions if you're not sure ;D

$23,000 a year and thankfully I grew up in the town my college is in (no boarding or student center fees, which would amount to about $25k a year). I get thoroughly depressed thinking about paying everything off.

Was the University of Illinois not accepting students when you graduated high school?

enjoy your maximum teaching career lifespan of 2 years. don't worry, post sexual harassment suit, i'm sure you'll still be able to find work at a community college where the chicks are half as smart, if twice as large. a little cushion is nothing when you consider that they're not capable of filling out any kind of official document to press charges! acceptable trade off imo

id rather teach highschool than college. the only thing stopping me from being a teacher is the fact that fuck you i woke up at 8 am way too many fucking times in my life already to do it for the rest of my life

no way, at least college kids are more interested than high school kids who are basically forced to be there...

Higher levels of college the more kids want to be there soo yeah, gimme college over high school any day, and non-first-year courses in particular!

I like Olivet's music program a bit better than UoI. Plus I'm not into their curricular activities (fuck doing marching band all over again). I also never applied to UoI, idk why

I just can't fathom the idea of Lin paying off 10yrs of college. My brother just got out of college and he has to pay $300 a month for student loans, not including all of his other bills. He graduated in the top 10% of his class in video game designing and he can't find a job in his field yet, so he's working a part-time at fucking toys r us and prolonging his debt (paying his student loan interest atm). Maybe Lin was lucky enough to have the money upfront like my girlfriend does, which if you are.. I'm completely envious. Grats though. Anyways, this is the only real subject I get misty eye over, because the thought of paying off loans for 20yrs+ is depressing. Oh, I also had to co-sign with my grandparents because my brother co-signed with my dad already, and my mother doesn't have the financial credit to help me. Shit sucks that I have to make the two rocks in my life worry about going bankrupt for the rest of their life. >_>

Our education in Australia is government subsidised to crap, and then the government provides a loan called HECS/HELP. Science degrees are around AUD$6-7k/year in "HECS Debt". If you pay upfront you get 20% off. But the BEST THING is that a) there's no interest (though it does get indexed for inflation), b) the government takes it out of your salary after you start earning a certain amount (around $36k) at 4% and up to 8% on a sliding scale when you earn around 70kish.

It's a pretty damn good system, and means if you can't afford it (really), you won't get people hunting you down to take away your worldly goods.

My PhD was actually fully funded on a scholarship for 3 years though, so the government paid for my tuition (which is standard for research degrees), and then a scholarship paid me for living allowances (not a lot of money, but tax free, around AUD$23k/year).

And this is why good social policy can be good
