dont get me wrong i dont think roth is some great rapper.

but the influence of out of the box music is whats gonna change the game.
hes but a ripple in the ocean of new artists, be they white or black.
i mean if someone gets anything from him its not to be so serious.

for me its simply that fact that if he can sqeeze thru then it opens the door for others to broaden their ideas, and not be afraid to make something differnt.

It's not that Roth is bad. He's fine. What he does is fine. If you couldn't have goofy white guys just having fun and be good, the rap world would be entirely different, because we'd never have had the Beastie Boys.


But he's not creative with it. He's just throwing out cliches and goofing off. Which is fine. His music is "fun" at least.


It's ok to have "similar" sounds. But these days hip hop isn't just a beat and a guy with some skills, or just a voice. All the best stuff, in my opinion, is the different stuff. The bluesy stuff like that Sage vid I posted, stuff like M.I.A.

Personally I have a tendency towards the intense stuff, but just in general the stuff I look forward to the most is the people experimenting with where music in general can go, especially across genre lines.




Annnd on another note, I just saw this a week or so ago for the first time... after watching it a couple times it doesn't seem as crazy, but the first time I watched it I just sat there slack-jawed the whole time.
