It's not the kind of thing that's just going to appeal to you if you don't have a use for it. I can think of a number of uses for it from a film making perspective, particularly pre-production film making, where easy access to ideas is paramount to the success of the film.

Script writing, storyboarding, location hunting, financing... It could all be done from within wave with other people (producers, directors, DoPs) in a very streamlined manner via Wave. This is what I hope to try out in Wave when I finally get an invite.

Exactly. The NSF is funding a proposal I've been working on for almost a year now and we're coming up on our next big sum of money (800,000 dollars) and the whole idea behind the proposal is creativity in IT. We have a system which we developed which captures ideas and tries to enhance creativity through a reward system (agent-based). Google Wave is so similar to what we've developed it's scary, the NSF funds us so well because what we're doing is novel, interesting and generally wanted, by the research community at least. The point to take away from this is, there is definitely a market for the kind of software which wave is introducing as the NSF is funding our work and there is literally nothing existing which covers these fields.

Where the casual user may not see value, the product is definitely novel and sought after.

They're not instant invites. They can usually take up to a week before you receive the invitation email, but my most recent invites I've sent out usually got invited within a day.
