It doesn't make it any less of a crime if she gave it away. The only saving grace is that it wasn't spent on further illegal activities, like drugs, weapons, or funding more schemes. That's probably why she got the minimum sentence, not because the judge thought giving it away was a noble sentiment.

Besides, how do they know she didn't bury it in the ground? 1 year in jail is a small price to pay for $340,000. She can just go dig it up when she gets out. And she'll need it, too, because no one is going to hire her after this.

i agree, someone has to work for that money and the people she gave it to probably weren't deserving for any of it and probably just ran off with their money all giddy and spent it on booze and hookers.

And I reflect the sentiments of others, people don't know how to invest their money well, giving them a free ride once however may be the turnaround they needed... I would love to have a little faith in humanity, but I know it's probably misplaced.

Stealing is stealing, period. It was for a good cause, and I do applaud her for this selfless act. Still though, at the end of the day it wasn't get money to give out, and she had to falsify financial records to cover her tracks.

I am glad she got the minimum sentence though.

PS, I'd rather see banks get into financial difficulties over things like this than bad loans they should've NEVER considered, or risky debt reversals with other institutions.
