You really picked Miami, kudos for sticking to your guns. But I hope you realize they're going to be blown out.
So much faith in a rookie QB (Sanchez) on these boards. Rookie QBs and 1st chance backup QBs usually get 2-3 games under their belt before the league figures them out. Last week, he looked like a rookie and made a lot of costly mistakes. Let's see how he rebounds.
History has also shown that rookie quarterbacks with a big time defense tend to do well (Flacco). The Jets D shut down perhaps the best offense in the league last week, and if Brees didn't draw an offsides on 4th and 1, they might not have even scored an offensive touchdown in the game.
A defense like that can win you a lot of games as long as the QB doesn't make a lot of mistakes. Once Sanchez relaxes a bit and stops trying to be a hero on every play, he'll be fine.
It should be noted that the fins d is no slouch. The fins have the second best rush def and the best rushing attack in the league. Jets have the 13th best rushing def and the 9th best rushing attack. If this game goes to the air, it can be a total crapshoot. Too many unknowns.
At the guy above me:
if you took the underdog in every game every week for the last twenty years, you would finish the season ahead for 19 of those years. There's a reason Vegas has large fancy buildings. Bet against the public.
There's really only a few games you can really take the other team with and it be possible. D: Some rather shitty games this week.
Don't know about this. Last year with Flacco and Matt Ryan was a rarity as far as Rookie QBs who do really well. The Jets D may very well be the real deal and you're right about Sanchez needing to not make these hero-like attempts every play. I'm just saying that if the Jets go 9-7, it wouldn't be surprising to me at all.
Also, I'm not sure if we can use the "history has always shown..." thing when it's happened like.. once in the past years.
NFL Videos: Ocho's disclaimer ROFL thats so awesome.
The "rookie QB success" history has pretty much just been "recent" history. Since 1978, only 12 rookies have posted winning records. Seven of those have been in the last 6 years. Let's look at the teams:
Kyle Boller (Baltimore, terrible QB)
Big Ben (Pitt, 2 superbowl rings)
Kyle Orton (Chicago, legend)
Vince Young (Tennessee, terrible QB)
Trent Edwards (Buffalo, TBD)
Joe Flacco (Baltimore, TBD)
Matt Ryan (Atlanta, TBD)
So if you go by the very most recent of history, I guess Cephius is right, but it's not something I'd use to forecast the success.
With that said, there's never been a rookie starter to PLAY in the superbowl, and there's only been, I think, 3 to even win a playoff game. Shaun King, Big Ben and Joe Flacco?
The funniest thing about him being on the Coyboys is that Newman was a first round pick, owning the living shit out of Roy made him a top 5 almost singlehandedly. (he embarrassed that kid from OkSU whose name I can't remember too)
It was ridiculous shit like Roy averaging 150 yards coming in, Newman sitting on him all day and him getting 1-2 catches for like 10 yards.
Also, I love how you bastards can still talk shit on VY when he's played 2 years, been to the pro bowl and the playoffs, and lost his job to the madden curse.
Plow you best be trollin.
Pfft clutch is averaging as many INT's per game as VY does per career.
Were gunna see some hot Vince Young action sunday night I bet when collins goes all coke head and throws 2-3 more picks.
My stats:
After Week 1 : 13-3
After Week 2 : 23-8-1
After Week 3 : 33-14-1
After Week 4 : 44-17-1
Week 5:
Cleveland at Buffalo
Dallas at Kansas City
Minnesota at St. Louis
Oakland at NY Giants
Tampa Bay at Philadelphia
Pittsburgh at Detroit
Washington at Carolina - Oh Clutch, you have failed me so many times. I wish I could quit pickin' you!
Cincinnati at Baltimore
Atlanta at San Francisco
Jacksonville at Seattle
Houston at Arizona
New England at Denver - I get a feeling this is gonna be a REALLY good game, perhaps the best game of the week, due to a combination of factors. It's also the first truly big test for the Broncos as a team, and for McDaniels as a coach and as a former student of Belicheck coming into his own (perhaps the first ex-disciple to truly do so?). The fanboy in me is sticking with the Pats, but the more reasoned side thinks it will be a close game right to the end.
Indianapolis at Tennessee
