I'm just hoping it isn't a terribly one-sided affair since it seems like Asmodians have at least a population advantage on most servers. Quality in numbers is another story, I guess.
Size doesn't mean anything lol, Asmo outnumber elyos on Vaizel and they suck hard. Our abyss map is all Elyos or Baluar owned. I mean the Asmo couldn't even take over an Elyos fort when it was finally made vulnerable

I can't say why you personally should play but I can give you my reasons and base your decision off of that and what others have posted to kind of get a feel for the game.

I played FFXI on and off for 4 years and wow for 2+ doing endgame in both and endgame PvP in WoW.

With the release of WotLK I have just been bored, I can't stand raiding 5 nights a week for progression when its become all about hard modes and the other WoW content is lackluster because doing the same BG's for 2 years is OLD and BORING.

I got into PvP but the grind and the general brokeness of how you obtain weapons which is probably 75% of how well melee do in arena gave me such a headache that I couldn't stand running another naxx 25 for a 10% drop on BoH only to have the tank who outrolls me for his PvP set he never uses.

Also I have been looking for a new game for a while I just haven't found one and I even reactivated my WAR account to see if some PvP was going on only to find the 40 servers were down to 4 and those 4 servers were completely empty.

The main reason I wanted to play aion is that world PvP with ariel combat seemed to be the focus and one of the main reasons I left WoW for Aion is because WoW's PvP is dead outside of Arena and a BG. No one is anywhere to be found but Dalaran and the Argent Tournament both safe zones and flying from one to the other which makes it take hours to find more then 1 person to gank for fun.

That and the appeal of a new MMO that we know some things about but not much is something that interests me verses joining a pre-existing MMO where your 2-3 years behind the population. That and the way the pvp system of Abyss Points is done gives us the challenge of a HWL grind from WoW back at 60 but not requiring you to play 12 hours a day 6 months straight and its something you can do at your own pace.

That and the fact that the game has been out for a year in China/Korea and the company behind it has released multiple big titles that are all successful so I knew I wouldn't be dealing with another Warhammer that sucks.

TLDR: Aions focus is PvPvE and the concept of PvP mixed with PvE and lots of world PvP and ariel combat with a respectable and experienced company behind the game made me want to play it instead of sitting in dalaran waiting for BG ques to lose because my team is a dumbass and grind arena for gear.

Well I mainly mentioned it as a start up job, once you get level 10, the levels are hell, they get better at 16 19 and 22 (I'm 23 currently) but from what I've heard it's one of the hardest jobs to level 10-25, and it can be discouraging at times.

I was told and I believe I read online that if you are not interested in any sort of pvp, that you will likely miss 90%-70% of the content in Aion since the game is designed around pvp. Would you agree?

Yes, a large majority of endgame is PvP based

Yes I would also agree but for the PvEers its a good game to get into PvP IMO as several people in my legion have only played FFXI and are doing fine with the PvP.

I feel most stay because at least it isn't war, ffxi, or wow. And they want something new to do. My fiance got us into trying it again once it went live. We haven't logged in it for 3 days, and I have no desire to (except to play with some peeps I haven't played with in awhile).

There's nothing wrong with liking the game, and I'm not bashing it, just if you're looking for something fresh and new, you might wanna wait for 14 lol
I think you once said that Aion is similar to a lot of other Korean MMOs?

I think that sums it up. It's not very innovative. It's not 'bad' but it's not 'great'. I think people want great MMOs, because of how much time they think they'll invest.

I like it though. I only played FFXI before this so I don't know what other Korean MMOs are like and thus, I'm not tired of the grinding.

I dunno about FFXIV, but of course most people here will try it out.

Is there really any innovative MMO out soon? How about an MMO that is truly immersive? Like, not the type of MMO where you skip past text from NPCs so you can get on w/ killing X number of crabs?

I doubt it. But there are some MMO-like games that may be fun (APB?).

I think the Star Wars MMO will be the most innovative/fresh MMO relatively speaking. It's a rough genre.

Aion is an above-average MMO, IMO. But it perhaps for a lot of people here it's just something to do until something better (at least, what they think is better; Star Wars/FFXIV) comes out.

I'm personally hyped for the Star Wars MMO.

As said. It's fun, but not great. I'm just passing the time waiting for FFXIV.

I thought I was going to hate the PvP, but it's grown on me enough that I laugh maniacally while ganking now.

I'll extend some sympathy on leveling. I know there are times on Glad where I've hit a new skill level and what I get either helped to up kill speed or perhaps improved uptime to some degree. There are definitely certain mob types I loathe fighting when they pop up on mission logs, elementals being the popular one for handing me my ass.

Right now, I look at the AH and see no plate armor or weapons for me 37+ to get. Well, I stand corrected, the one or two that are there are set for 700k+. Fuck that. I've also been trying to get Ankle Snare at a reasonable price for the past 4 days, but all have been 500k+. Downside of that stigma, while pivotal for Glad PvP, it can probably be countered by a status curing potion and just leaves me back where I started in trying to get in range of people.

I know I definitely need the move boots at this point, but I'm still like 35k AP out and am unsure on whatever Elyos quest supposedly gives a lesser pair. Though, for the hell of it, I did run into the level 25 asmo area in the Abyss and just picked on people before 5 ganged up on me.

ya, even now I feel like it's FlyFF and Perfect World rolled into one, with better graphics. I kept hoping I'd stick with it, but it doesn't excite me. I really do want something new.

And though SE will probably drive us all nuts in 14, at least I give them credit in constantly trying to do just that. The "lvling" system definitely seems different. They're the one company I have hope that won't just try to do what everyone else does because "it works, might as well use it."

But ya I am also excited about Star Wars. Even if it's the same old shit, I'm such a huge fanatic, that at least I'll get a kick out of recognizing shit, so should keep me entertained for nostalgia purposes.

Going to bed right now so not reading everything, if you hate pvp you wont like aion. Its not PvE like FF11.

I like FF11 much more then aion tbh, just cant play ffxi anymore lol to few updates, and no time to do end game.

FF11, I have no clue why its not bigger then it is. Really aion vs 11 it just plain sucks... It looks better ya, but I cant help but like how FF11 looks vs it, cant say why just that I do lol.

Aions set up up till now seems to be so close to wows(i played like 6 lvls of wow and now 25 lvls of aion) The more i play other MMOs the more I see why I stayed with 11 so long, it kicks ass vs them lol. Its nothing like them, the systems are not just "go here kill go back"

Depending on days zones change, mobs change from day to day. Seems much more complex then others.

TBH tho, Aions air fighting is fun^^ lol nothing like flying into the air binding someone and blowing them the hell away with DP.

it's hard to flat out say "I hate PvP" because every game implements it in their own unique way. Game balance plays a huge role in it. FFXI's PvP sucked because the game wasn't built for it from the ground-up, but a game that is has the potential to make it worthwhile, even for those that shy away from it normally. I've never been pro-PvP, but I've never been against it either.

Guess I'm picking this up tomorrow so I have something to do since I'm between jobs and classes are only two days a week, plus I have a friend playing that I wouldn't mind meeting up with from time to time. Thanks for the opinions all.

Someone in game said its made by the makers of wow? That would answer a lot of questions if it is true. Is the mother company the owner of Bliz and Nsoft?

I did not think it was true, and it was in game chat so god knows. But I dont see how they could be linked(and Im to lazy to look it up atm lol)

god its to late, did not look it up but there is no way Nsoft is owned by the same company, its fing Koren... should shoot myself for even thinking that.

I'm playing it as a change of pace from FFXI.

I've never played WoW so I'm not sure how it compares but it's different from FFXI. I don't know what the E in PvE stands for but the quests/solo stuff I've been doing are pretty fun and I'm having a blast playing templar. Only level 14 so far though.

I've taken the "pick up and play and read nothing about the mechanics of the game" approach. No obsessing over all the best gear for every situation shit like I do in FFXI.

I'm not sure if I'll continue to pay for it after the two months I payed for but we'll see.

Ok so anyway srs review time:

1-25 is your WoW clone, it's quite polished with some nice features.
Once you hit 10 you get wings and you can fly around in limited areas, but you get to glide down hills wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

25+ the training wheels come off, you can quest all the way to 40 btw quite easily ( I'm 39 now and missed quite a few ) . ( In the Abyss - the 25-50 PVP area flight is everywhere ).

25+ You can either PVE level in normal PVE areas or you can PVE/PVP in the abyss where you are open to getting ganked.

Killing stuff in the abyss whether it be monsters or players gets you abyss points which lets you buy the hands down best gear in the game.

Killing outside the abyss nets you similar exp/hr but no gear points, and little risk.

If you really enjoy world PVP Aion is 100% for you, the ganking action is great and you'll easily find yourself on both sides of it.

I think in a few months the lowbie ganking will calm down because it just isnt worth the points.

Also the consumable/preparation required for fights is there - anyone ignoring it will get reamed.

From ward scrolls to prevent damage, antiCC pots, +flight time duration scrolls, flight speed duration scrolls , come prepared or get destroyed vs a more serious player ).

Of course that makes a healthy crafting market so there is stuff for all to enjoy.

Oh yes, the main PVE instances are controlled by fortress control - so if your side is sucking you'll have reduced instance options etc so it's WORTH FIGHTING FOR.

Unlike WoW where world pvp was sadly ignored and patched out of the game from vanilla WoW onwards.
