On a more calm note, is there anyway to completely avoid PvP? Are there any PvE servers? Every review of Aion has always been mainly about PvP then mention as a side note the PvE aspect, is this because PvP is mandatory at some level?

I have zero interest in involuntary PvP.

Then you have zero interest in Aion.

You want PvE? Go find a hardcore wow guild on a PvE server or play EQ2 I don't know.

What is it about PvE that you like so much and PvP you can't stand? A lot of people think your way with PvP in that they don't like it but after trying it its not that bad, its just PvE in the sense that people who are good and excell at their class and game knowledge will preform the best in PvP the only difference is its a bit more fast paced.

Buying Aion with no intention to participate in PvP is like buying a car for only the air freshner and throwing the car out, its just not for you.

If you want to try Aion before buying, you can always try out the Chinese Aion servers. You'll have to download their client though since it's different from the NA/EU release, but you get 10 free hours of gametime. It's not terribly enough to get far into the game, but it'll give you a sense of what you're walking into, get to see the basics of controls, mob AI, etc.

If you want PURELY PVE, continue playing C-Aion as those servers are mostly dead and few people will try to gank you. Although you'll lose a great deal of content from the game since it'll be hard to find anyone to do anything with you. There are some C-aion legions around I think if you go through the aionsource forums.

Because everyone wants to keep playing FFXI when it takes forever to do anything in that game, no new content for months at a time and no PvP content.

FFXI had its run and its old.

What did you expect to happen from 1-10? That's about 2-3 hours into the game.

Seriously...lol, that 1-10 comment was the most retarded shit on the thread.

I like PvE much more than PvP, but this game actually has interesting PvP. The leveling isn't too bad, and the instanced raids are fun as hell so far. This grind is NOTHING like a Korean mmo grind; try playing RFO on a Korean server and maxing your level/stats....anyone who thinks the grind is like a Korean MMO hasn't played anything but Lineage, lol. There is also Maple, Skillroad, and SotNW. Aion isn't like any of them.

The graphics are fucking A+, if that matters to you. Auction, bazaar, crafting, and legion (linkshell) systems are all excellent.

If you absolutely hate PvP, you should be playing EQ2, FFXI, or PvE WoW (which blows ass).

as someone who's never played a pvp game before, i find the pvp in aion to be a blast. Sure it sucks getting ganked while you're farming abyss points, but if you're prepared, at least you'll put up a fight. and chanter is just bullshit easy mode for pvp. You might even round up some friends, go back, and rape the fuck out of the kids who just jacked you. Thanks to FFXI, i can sit mindlessly and grind for hours, probably because i used to be able to either A. sit at a camp for hours at a time waiting for something, or B. mindlessly grind levels in pts. It seems most people do quests that have posted here, i guess i'm the opposite. I pretty much just do the necessary quests outside the abyss, and the campaign for the storyline. Other than that, i sit in the abyss and farm points. The worst part about farming points is, the higher rank you get, the more you lose when you get jacked by the opposite side. Aion is definitely worth a try though, if anything, its definitely a change of pace from the ffxi most of us have known for years.

my mmo background: ffxi for 4.5 years and tried wow for a couple days. now to why i play aion.

    the graphic style

one of the reasons why i never got into wow and it's comic style. i just don't like it. the cry engine here delivers and some places are simply stunning.

    combat

two worlds here: ffxi with it's engage (hit hit hit) -macrosuperswitchgearws - (hit hit hit) against aion - skill skill skill skill skill hit skill skill. it's a lot more "action". my first impression with skill chains on glad in c-aion was, as i'd play a beat em up. borat would say: i like.

    pve xping

i went through years of suffering in ffxi group xping. the whole quest system in aion, while certainly nothing new if you played other up2date mmos, is totally different from ffxi. it tells me what i have to do, where, shows when i am doing it and for what. they might not be very original (appart from some), but i'd grind mobs anyway so why not give me an extra on top of that.

the fact that most can be done solo is also a big plus for me. i shifted to a more casual playstyle during my last ffxi year but as we all know, ffxi doesn't really support that. in aion, i'm very content with my achievments for only playing 2-3hrs x 2-3 during the week. log in, finish some quests, get new etc. on my own pace. you can (and i recommend) do group quests but it's not a requirement to group to progress at leveling.

p.s. you can easily tell where are people coming from by how they think of the whole leveling. wow guys mostly complain about the required grinding, while i yet have to find anything close to ffxi grind from the dunes to bird camps.

    pvp

i tried all pvp options in ffxi and didn't like any because ffxi was never meant for pvp. aion is the total opposite. i'm only 23 so my pvp experience comes from rift action. simply loving it so far and can't wait for abyss action. however my most anticipated "event" are pvpve instances (dreadgion so far). doing an instance against another competitior has to be awesome and certainly adds an unique factor to each run.

    gathering/crafting

the shit :D i adore the system. crit on gathering, batch crafting, work orders. i've spent a lot more time with gathering/crafting than leveling. usually, i only change to leveling when i'm broke again. i however do not understand why the crafting alley and the broker/warehouse have to be seperated on the opposite sides of sanctum.

    imo:

    - if you're coming from ffxi only, aion delivers you a lot to experience. the mmo basics are still the same, but that's about it with the similarities.
    - if you're coming from any other newer mmo and have no interest in pvp at all, you could skip aion. you won't get much more than a new world with new npcs then, even if you have to mention that it is a very nice looking and polished world.
    - if you're into pvp, try it.

Why Aion? It feels good man.

Lol, seriously, this is a silly question. Some hate/love FFXI, some hate/love WOW, some hate/love WAR, and so on and on. Try it. You don't like, drop it. You end up liking it? Then squeeze it and hold it. No matter how much someone else loves/hates the game, you won't know until you play it. Simple as that. I see both good reasons for hating/loving Aion, you can make a guess on that if you'll like it or not. However, that guess will leave something to be desired.

If you do decide to play, please stay away from Azphel server. People should realize that there are other servers out there. Good grief.

    Pretty much what Aevis said.

After having to deal with FF11's leveling system for so long Aion/WoWs was so much better.

The character customization is awesome. And although you can solo, group play is tons of fun.

It's not a silly question when the game costs 50 bucks to try it. If it had real free trials then I could see that, but until then, there's nothing wrong with trying to get an impression about the game to see if the 50 bucks is worth the risk.

But there is a free trial with the C-Aion client but its only 5 hours or so. Yes you can buy more time for like 2-3 dollars but in the end even though it cost you the few dollars, playing on an empty server where no one understands you sucks let alone most of the gameplay is 25+ where the fun stuff happens and a few classes shine a lot more in the 20's+

I am not saying to not download C-Aion but its hard to base a decision off of a game based on 1-20 as a lot of people in WoW are there for the endgame content and not their experiences 1-20 where they have never partied or ran an instance 90% of the time.

There is really hard PvE endgame that drops the best shit so if your looking for some good content its there but mixed in with the rest of it.

Beta was pretty much free to play last 4-5 months, if you wanted to try it you had plenty of opportunities.

There would be no point to a free trial for anything like level 1-15 or 1-20. This game doesn't even start until level 25.

You would play in the starter zones and learn absolutely nothing about the game from a trial, except for the fact the graphics absolutely own WoW/FFXI.

I also like the hole when you log off for a decent amount of time you get 20% more exp per kill. No clue how that works but every time I log on i have like 30-80% bar for +20% exp. helps with my time limit I have each day.

Next however I have to say I hate what I put in bold. Thing about FFXI that I like is that is has somewhat of a maze to it. Some things go to far (hi AV) other stuff tho, like getting around sea and some other areas i can not spell are big mazes. I like that, ya I can look up a map now, thats only because its all been mapped was not always the case.

In aion it points you right to the area, no joke a X is put on your map even if you have not seen the area and cant see it on your map. That, in my mind is a bit to much lol.

getting use to how things work is not bad, it took me a fair amount of time in order to learn all the basic things(2 days? maybe 3) like how to move the UI aaround to my liking. Your 1st group quest is at around 20( I did it at 18-19). This quest is split into like 10 quests that are all in the same area, I got lucky and found lots of groups doing each quest(I helped them on one part they got me my other in the mean time) so finding people for this 1st group quest is not hard at all.

Aion PvP is a must to lvl up later on right around 35?
