So, when I tried to upload some more stuff to my iphone, itunes complained that it was synced to another computer and my only option was to erase and resync. Unfortunately, no option was given to just leave the stuff on the iphone there, and sync anyway.

I went ahead and did it, since I can just reupload stuff, but now my ringtone is gone. Since this is an unjailbroken iphone, I can only use ringtones made from songs purchased through itunes. My purchase (of the original song) was still there, and able to be reuploaded. However, the ringtone I made from it was not. And it is no longer able to be made into a ringtone (according to itunes).

So... without jailbreaking, how would I go about getting it back? Any ideas?

And for future reference, is there a way to sync without erasing everything on my iphone that isn't in itunes?

as for your Ringtone question pretty sure you're sol. You either talk to the Itunes help desk and explain the situation or you can use Audiko.net and look for your ringtone there and download it. Best of all its free

It was a custom clip of part of a song, Rodeo Machine by Halfby. Not sure if it'll be there, but I can check, thanks.

On the otherhand, if I did jailbreak, can I use my own non-iTunes authorized ringtones? I have another iPhone that is jailbroken, but has no service so I never had to worry about it, before.

Jailbreaking just opens the phone up so much. I love it. However for your case, I would say that you are indeed SOL for the ringtone.

As for syncing..... anytime you sync you will, in essence, take whatever is on your comp and mirror it to your phone. That means if you delete a song on your comp, the next time you sync, it will get rid of that song. That being said, just check the box that says "Manually manage my music" or something like that. You can drag and drop whatever you want without having to sync

Checking the box forced me to sync anyway, I tried to get around it. So, even with jailbreaking, I can't use a custom ringtone and still have to make one through iTunes?

Ok, solved my own problem by this method:

I just remade my ringtone and uploaded it to the iphone, without having to go through the regular process.
