    Window7 and ATI CCC

So i got my hands on window 7 64bit from my school. ATM i'm updating the game (8 hours /sigh) so i'm trying to get everything looking and running the way i like. Only thing i'm having problems with is CCC for my ATI card. I've downloaded it from mult places (ATI site and even modded sites) and can't get CCC to even install.

It goes through all the normal install shit, acting like it is installing. After it says its done its not in my programs and i even tried looking at the program files where it says its installing, nothing. I can't even understand why something like this could even happen. If its unpacking it to C:XXXX then you look at that file and its not there.... i don't know, never even heard of something doing that.

Anyone else having this problem? or know why/how something like that could do that? Would it be a windows7 problem or another 64 bit problem?

Just to start, are you sure this is the correct installer for 64bit? If you try to install 32bit Catalyst on a 64bit system it won't work. (If that is not the case).

Make sure you go to "Folder options" and turn on hidden folders. When I installed to 7 and completed everything. I always go back and delete the C:/ATI installation files. But they weren't there as you encountered. Found out later the folder was set to hidden.

I have an ati 4870 and win7 64bit. Didn't have any problems here. Try choosing a custom install, that's what i always do. Don't know if thats your problem though...

I always get the latest from ATI's website too.

Drivers aren't all that important for Windows 7. I was running all sorts of games on my PC without any drivers for my 4850 for like 3-4 weeks. WoW, Mass Effect, Bioshock... no slowdown, all looked just as great as usual.

I had to install the latest version of the ATI Drivers/CCC, because there was no way I found to adjust the overscan for my hdtv. I don't remember having any issues installing the drivers for it though and i'm pretty sure I used custom install as well. Win7 64bit with a 4870 here too.

Yea i've tried the following all do the same things. The install to a temp folders show up, but the install/program itself doesn't show after the install just the temp folder with the setup.exe

I just tried to install it to a new folder to see if any new files show up. Nothing in the new file, nothing on hide, etc.

Could it potentially be UAC bugging out? You've got it disabled like a proper non-retarded computer user, yes? If not, I could theoretically see that being your issue.

Yes its turned off, that is the 1st thing i tried. UAC is differant in windows7 tho. You don't just turn it off, but just make it so you don't get told every time something trys to write a file.

not sure what the deal is, i just installed CCC the other day and i'm on win7 x64 with crossfire and had no problems at all (although like someone else said i was running on win7's default drivers for a few months with no problem, and just updated to ati's newest to screw with crossfire settings

O well i don't know whats going on, and the other tech forums have given even less idea's than you guys lol. Thus why i posted here in the first place. First thing win7 did was update my G.card when i installed so i'm not sure if that is the reason or not. I'll just have to deal with a dull looking game for a while.

It's probably going to be like this until Windows 7 is actually released on the retail side. Once it's out for the masses it'll be much easier to get up and running I'd assume.

EDIT: Assuming you have a 4870 (I think I read that), if this doesn't work then you're hooped for now, I guess.
