Dont get me wrong, when people would come back from hiatuses and ask me about what they can do etc I'd always ask them how they were doing or how their life was coming along, usually throw in a couple of details regarding their leave so it was apparent I paid attention but paying attention and caring are 2 different things.

A single person is always a single person, the importance of that single life is only as much as the people around it allow it to have. But if the person is king then it's already established that the importance allowed is rather high. Nearly as expendable? On a very very very very very very basic level, sure.

But we're beyond the basics brah. A good king brings out the greatness in those pawns, that alone can make him invaluable. Caring may be one way to do it but it can easily be substituted for with a good memory and an attention to detail.
