They forgot to put like 500,000,000 tons of TNT and we saw nothing. Data not out as far as I can tell. Unless I missed it.

They're talking about it on NASA TV right now. It's kind of entertaining. They're answering questions about why there was no dust plume.
Finally, democracy at moon.
Aw man I missed this
I'm assuming from the posts tho that I didn't miss much? lol
No atmosphere = no dust plume!?
Not really Yoji, you just saw the impact from one of the on board cameras. Seeing as the satellite was destroyed so was the camera. Its one of those situations where if you know what you are looking at and not expecting some nuclear blast then it was exciting.
If you look at this link from when NASA smashed into Tempel1 it looked the exact same. After we did that we subsequently found that comets contains millions of gallons of water, hopefully we find something interesting from the debris field post impact.
Edit: Forgot to post link to the Tempel1 impact. The moon one looked similar.

Here is a picture of the moon impact right before it hit.
Spoiler: show
All impacts look the same basically.
Who else thinks this is a Covert OP by the US government to blow up the alien moon base discovered in the 1960s? I think we may have just pissed off the moon people.
'PLEASE BE INFORMED THAT THERE IS A SANTA CLAUS.'
That's ridiculous. I hate conspiracy theorists.
Everyone knows Santa is based on Neptune.
This will be more ammo for the flat earth people.
Where was the moon-shattering kaboom?
There was supposed to be a moon-shattering kaboom!
We were retaliating against the moon for this:

I'm somewhat saddened no one knows the Santa quote.
Basically NASA said a lot of variables were involved, and that the most likely answer was because there was little gravity on the moon, the force of the impact and the explosion may have sent the particles out faster than you could see - but that there was definitely an impact.
It was kind of interesting. They theorized that explosions and debris fields are visible on Earth because gravity pulls the particles back to the ground and air resistance prevents them from pushing out. But what if there is no resistance and almost no gravity? Then the particles would be free to disperse.
Seems like a cop out but it's the first time an astronomer has said something that's made sense to me.
FUCK YEA MARVIN THE MARTIAN
I looked at the sky this morning, and the Moon was still there....mankind fail again.
