I'd actually seriously listen to people crying about this if they could supply some people who actually deserved it this year...

Otherwise, the prize is being used as a potential catalyst for future change. I really don't see what all this bitching is about. Obama himself even said he wasn't expecting it and was shocked with the announcement.

Here you go: The Nobel Peace Prize 1983 - Press Release

The Norwegian Nobel Committee has awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for 1983 to Lech Walesa.

In reaching this decision the Committee has taken into account Walesa's contribution, made with considerable personal sacrifice, to ensure the workers' right to establish their own organisations.

This contribution is of vital importance in the wider campaign to secure the universal freedom to organise – a human right as defined by the United Nations.
Lech Walesa's activities have been characterised by a determination to solve his country's problems through negotiation and cooperation without resorting to violence. He has attempted to establish a dialogue between the organisation he represents – Solidarity – and the authorities. The Committee regards Walesa as an exponent of the active longing for peace and freedom which exists, in spite of unequal conditions, unconquered in all the peoples of the world.

The Committee has on several occasions when awarding the Peace Prize emphasised that a campaign for human rights is a campaign for peace. Furthermore the Committee believes that Walesa's attempt to find a peaceful solution to his country's problems will contribute to a relaxation of international tension.

In an age when detente and the peaceful resolution of conflicts are more necessary than ever before, Lech Walesa's contribution is both an inspiration and an example.

Hahaha wow, I heard this in the morning before I got to school, and ive yet to hear one good thing about him getting the award. Every one of my classes, even the lefties, said that this was the biggest joke in his term yet.

At least today makes it easy to see whos up Obama's ass so far as to back up anything he does. I cant believe anyone thinks he deserves this award when he himself says he doesnt.

The part that really makes me laugh is that he was nominated 11 days into office. I also find it funny that the board who picks the winner basically said "he didnt win it for actually doing anything yet, but were hoping he'll live up to the expectations".

Well, just another winner to show that this award means nothing.

In Glenn Beck World, the only thing that's important is conservatism, therefore all awards or important things in the world need to reflect conservatism or they're WRONG. For example, the Bible is important, but it says things that aren't compatible with conservatism, therefore it's necessary to rewrite the Bible to say what conservatives want. Similarly, the Nobel Peace Prize is viewed as a prestigious award by many people, therefore they SHOULD award it to the most prominent conservative(s) regardless of their contribution to peace.

To either proactively, or retroactively encourage progress in the area of peace and human relations, but all that really happens is people get butthurt over who won it no matter what and nothing ever gets fixed because the meaning gets lost in all the retarded noise.

    Am I close?

A better question would've been "You know how to read threads before posting stupid shit?", but I suppose the answer to that would've been too obvious...

WOW. How in the hell did I not know about this...

    Best whopper:

Socialistic terminology permeates English translations of the Bible, without justification. This improperly encourages the "social justice" movement among Christians.
I suppose the "whatever you have done to the least of my brethren, you have done unto me" verse was liberal bias too. Good God.

At the risk of a derail, here's more on that conservative bible project.

Under God: God's Liberal (or Conservative) Bias - David Waters

Bible translation is an intense, scholarly activity. There is a deliberate process to be as thorough and accurate as possible, involving scholars from around the world. They take this shit very, very seriously.

I don't think the Conservative Bible will make it very far. It stands to alienate a ton of moderate Christians who don't want the politics of hate shitting up the word of god.
