The term "it seems" tends to indicate one being on the outside looking in.

But when he said "You mean besides being shitty" indicates something known. I personally love downtown Detroit. Anyone who said there's nothing to do in Downtown, must not like food. o.o;; I love the food in downtown Detroit, a lot of great small, individual owned businesses and some great bakeries. Aside from a few great music venues. The downtown is getting nicer and nicer as time goes on, it's a small downtown but I love it. I'm not a casino guy but there's a few of those too. They're bringing all the sporting arenas back into detroit too, from Pontiac, aside from tearing down old structures and rebuilding new ones (Comerica). I'm slightly biased towards them though because the company my dad owns designed them, but I think it's making me love and appreciate the city more. Sure it has it's shitty areas, but can you name a city that doesn't have its dangerous areas? New York, Chicago, San Fran, LA, pretty much all have areas you want to avoid. I have hope Detroit will rebound, I always hear stories from older people in the area who talk about how grand and great Detroit use to be, so I hope it might return to maybe even a fraction of its former glory. But honestly, if you say Detroit sucks or there's nothing to do, you must just not go there ever, or just be too scared shitless to explore a bit.

*edit* sorry but people who talk shit about Detroit piss me off, especially people who have never been there. Aside from the grand slam of Detroit the media loves to do. It is giving Detroit a shittier reputation than it already has. But I will say I hate Michigan's weather.
