How do I tell if I am overworking my computer if it has multiple instances of FFXI open?

Noticed a significant decrease in FPS, but could still run around fine (was more a bitch tabbing through all of them), just trying to figure out if there would be any negative effects on my computer if I left that many open for a prolonged period of time.

Just out of curiosity, I remember reading that above a certain hit rate, 1% haste is always better than 7 accuracy (Turban vs Ace's Helm). What % hit rate is the point where 1% haste is always better?

Increase of 1% Haste = 1/(100 - (x + 1)),

where x is haste before adding 1%.

7acc = 3.5% hitrate, minimum impact while still gaining benefit from all accuracy is 91.5 => 95% acc, so increase in damage = 3.5/91.5 = 3.83%.

When does Haste overtake this?

1/(100 - (x+1)) = 0.0383...

1/(100 - x - 1) = 0.0383...
0.0383(100 - x - 1) = 1
3.83 - 0.0383x - 0.0383 = 1
3.83 - 0.0383 - 1 = 0.0383x

Answer = 72.8%, so at 73% => 74% Haste, 1% Haste > 3.5% hitrate.

Basically, unless you're zerging on DRK with a 2handed weapon, never if you are using all 3.5% hitrate.

If you are not using all 3.5% hitrate,

3% hitrate = 3/92 = 3.26% increase, Haste required before the 1% = 69%
2.5% hitrate = 2.5/92.5 = 2.70% increase, Haste required before the 1% = 62%
2% hitrate = 2/93 = 2.15% increase, Haste required before the 1% = 53%
1.5% hitrate = 1.5/93.5 = 1.60% increase, Haste required before the 1% = 37%
1% hitrate = 1/94 = 1.06% increase, Haste required before the 1% = 3%
0.5% hitrate = 0.5/94.5 = 0.529% increase, Haste always superior

Isnt that like... All of them? I mean, im not sure you could win all the zones with 3, although i bet its close. But you could farm in any of them i imagine with just about any setup that isnt plain retarded.

On another note, is there some place i could have turned in my signal pearl? I havent played for a while and i cant find it. And if i tossed it, where can i get a new one?

Problems might only arise if your CPU or GPU are overheating, but you can keep an eye on those easily (I use speedfan to monitor temperatures). With a good case/fan you should be good.

Frequent hard drive access can shorten its lifespan too, but I never noticed anything like heavy HDD activity even with 3-4 games open, so this might hardly be an issue.
